Ethics and professional issues in couple and family therapy - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Megan J. Murphy (editor) خلاصه: The Lincoln family attends therapy for concerns about their oldest daughter, Elise, who is 15 years old. Elise has been breaking curfew, and the family fears she is using drugs. Dr. Shindell sees all the family members, parents Kelly and Sam Lincoln, Elise, and her younger sister, Macy, age 12. Family therapy focuses on getting the parents to synchro- nize their parenting efforts to strengthen the parental hierarchy. As ther- apy progresses, Dr. Shindell receives a voicemail from Sam’s mother, Mrs. Lincoln, stating her concern that Kelly and Sam are unfit parents, and that she and her husband would like to try to gain custody of the girls. The elder Mrs. Lincoln states in the message that Sam has been known to hit Elise out of frustration for her misbehavior. Ethics is about what actions we should take, which rules govern our conduct, what “right thing” we should do, and what we ought not to do. It is also about how we justify our actions. When making ethical decisions, couple and family therapists need well-founded reasons to support their actions. Our sense of ethics is influenced by scholarship and evidence, and is shaped by our values, worldview, and context (Roberts & Dyer, 2004). Ethics involves cognition and affect, and a “moral sensitivity” that includes the recognition that our actions affect the welfare of others (Welfel & Kitchener, 2003). Clients’ values and morals also need to be clearly under- stood so that empowering, collaborative decisions can be made. When facing situations that may have ethical quandaries, couple and family therapists can make decisions using the following four criteria:
Bilingualism, Culture, and Social Justice in Family Therapy - Original PDF
Bilingualism, Culture, and Social Justice in Family Therapy - Original PDF
نویسندگان: marcela polanco; Navid Zamani; Christina Da Hee Kim خلاصه: This volume advocates for justice in language rights through its explorations of bilingualism in family therapy, from the perspectives of eighteen languages identified by the authors: Black Talk/Ebonics/Slang, Farsi, Fenglish, Arabic, Italian, Cantonese Chinese, South Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Vietnamese, Spanish, Chilean Spanish, Mexican Spanish, Colombian Spanglish, Madrileño Spanish, Spanglish, Pocho Spanish, Colloquial Spanish, and English. It identifies standard English as the current language most often used across family therapy programs and services in the United States. The book discusses efforts to respond to the rapidly changing linguistic landscape and the increasingly high demand for appropriate therapy services that respond effectively to diverse families in America. It discusses recruitment and training of linguistically diverse family therapists and strategies to promote linguistic equality to support the rights of family therapists, their practices, and the communities they serve. Chapters explore ways to integrate languages in professional and personal lives, including the improvisational, self-taught translanguaging skills and practices that go beyond the lexical and grammatical rules of a language. The book describes the creative use of native or heritage languages to ensure that the juxtaposition of English therapeutic and daily-life landscapes is integrated into family therapy settings. It discusses contextual, relational, therapeutic, and training potential offered by bilingualism as well as the necessary transmutations in theory and practice. This volume is an essential resource for clinicians, therapists, and practitioners as well as researchers, professors, and graduate students in family studies, clinical psychology, and public health as well as all interrelated disciplines.

The Practice of Family Therapy: Key Elements Across Models - Original PDF
The Practice of Family Therapy: Key Elements Across Models - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Suzanne Midori Hanna (Editor) خلاصه: Now in its fifth edition, The Practice of Family Therapy comes at a time when traditional approaches to psychotherapy have given way to multidimensional strategies that best serve the needs of diverse groups who are grappling with the many challenges unique to family therapy practice. With expanded coverage of different models, along with new developments in evidence-based and postmodern practices, this integrative textbook bridges the gap between science and systemic/relational approaches, as it guides the reader through each stage of family therapy. Part I lays the groundwork by introducing the first-, second-, and third-generation models of family therapy, teaching the reader to integrate different elements from these models into a systemic structure of practice. Part II explores the practical application of these models, including scripts for specific interventions and rich case examples that highlight how to effectively work with diverse client populations. Students will learn how to make connections between individual symptoms and cutting-edge family practices to respond successfully to cases of substance abuse, trauma, grief, depression, suicide risk, violence, LGBTQ families, and severely mentally ill clients and their families. Also included are study guides for each model and a glossary to review main concepts. Aligned with the Association of Marital and Family Therapy Regulatory Boards’ (AMFTRB) knowledge and content statements, this textbook will be key reading for graduate students who are preparing for the national licensing exam in marriage and family therapy.
Handbook of Therapeutic Storytelling: Stories and Metaphors in Psychotherapy, Child and Family Therapy, Medical Treatment, Coaching and Supervision - Original PDF
Handbook of Therapeutic Storytelling: Stories and Metaphors in Psychotherapy, Child and Family Therapy, Medical Treatment, Coaching and Supervision - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Stefan Hammel خلاصه: The Handbook of Therapeutic Storytelling enables people in the healing professions to utilise storytelling, pictures and metaphors as interventions to help their patients. Communicating in parallel worlds and using simple images and solutions can help to generate positive attitudes, which can then be nurtured and enhanced to great effect. Following an "Introduction" to the therapeutic use of stories, which closes with helpful "Instructions for use", the book is divided into two parts, both of which contain a series of easily accessible chapters. Part One includes stories with specific therapeutic applications linked to symptoms and situations. Part Two explains and investigates methods and offers a wide range of tools; these include trance inductions, adaptation hints, reframing, the use of metaphor and intervention techniques, how stories can be structured, and how to invent your own. The book also contains a detailed reference section with cross-referenced key words to help you find the story or tool that you need. With clear guidance on how stories can be applied to encourage positive change in people, groups and organisations, the Handbook of Therapeutic Storytelling is an essential resource for psychotherapists and other professions of health and social care in a range of different settings, as well as coaches, supervisors and management professionals.
