Update on Troubleshooting in Thermoforming - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Murali Srinivasan Natamai Subramanian خلاصه: Thermoforming is a technique whereby a flat sheet of plastic is changed into a three-dimensional object with the use of heat. However, there are a lot of problems that can occur during this process and this book will provide thermoformers and part designers with an insight into the problems that can occur during the production of a product explain why problems happen and how to prevent them. Problems can be classified as uneven shapes, blisters or bubbles, poor detail, incomplete forming, sagging (excessive sheet sag, uneven sag), webbing, stretch marks, poor wall distribution, tearing the plastic sheet when forming, part sticking to the mould, part warpage, surface marking, uneven edges, raised corners, and cracking in corners. Also discussed are the different types of surface defects, their identification in plastic parts and the ways to solve the problem. All these problems and their remedies are covered in detail in this book. This book will be of use to those producing thermoformed items whether they are experienced thermoformers or new to the technique, and to designers, designing items which will be produced by thermoforming.

Polymer Processing: Principles and Design - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Donald G. Baird, Dimitris I. Collias خلاصه: Fundamental concepts coupled with practical, step-by-step guidance With its emphasis on core principles, this text equips readers with the skills and knowledge to design the many processes needed to safely and successfully manufacture thermoplastic parts. The first half of the text sets forth the general theory and concepts underlying polymer processing, such as the viscoelastic response of polymeric fluids and diffusion and mass transfer. Next, the text explores specific practical aspects of polymer processing, including mixing, extrusion dies, and post-die processing. By addressing a broad range of design issues and methods, the authors demonstrate how to solve most common processing problems.
Fire Properties of Polymer Composite Materials - Original PDF
Fire Properties of Polymer Composite Materials - Original PDF
نویسندگان: A. P. Mouritz, A. G. Gibson (auth.) خلاصه: This book is the first to deal comprehensively with the important topic of the fire behaviour of polymer composite materials. Composites are used in a diverse range of applications, including land and marine transport, aerospace, the chemical industry, and most branches of civil engineering infrastructure. It is our belief that fire behaviour is the single most important factor limiting the wider use of composites in many of these areas. Our aim in producing this volume is therefore to stimulate the work that is needed to overcome this fundamental problem. The first step in such a journey is, of course, to summarise what is presently known, which is what we have attempted here. This book aims to be an authoritative reference source. The book covers all of the key issues on the behaviour of polymer composites in fire. This includes a description of the thermal degradation and combustion mechanisms of composites, including the thermal decomposition reactions, reaction rates, flammable volatiles and toxic gases of organic polymers and fibres. The fire reaction properties that define the flammability and fire hazard of polymer composites are described, including time-to-ignition, heat release rate, flame spread, smoke and gaseous combustion products. The fire resistive properties of composites are also described, including the key properties of burn-through rate and mechanical integrity during and after fire.

Computational Flow Modeling for Chemical Reactor Engineering - Original PDF
Computational Flow Modeling for Chemical Reactor Engineering - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Vivek V. Ranade (Eds.) خلاصه: This book describes how modeling fluid flow in chemical reactors may offer solutions that improve design, operation, and performance of reactors. Chemical reactors are any vessels, tubes, pipes, or tanks in which chemical reactions take place. Computational Flow Modeling for Chemical Reactor Engineering will show the reactor engineer how to define the specific roles of computational flow modeling, select appropriate tools, and apply these tools to link reactor hardware to reactor performance. Overall methodology is illustrated with numerous case studies.Industry has invested substantial funds in computational flow modeling which will pay off only if it can be used to realize significant performance enhancement in chemical reactors. No other single source exists which provides the information contained in this book
Fundamentals of Phase Separation in Polymer Blend Thin Films - Original PDF
Fundamentals of Phase Separation in Polymer Blend Thin Films - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Sam Coveney خلاصه: This work sheds new light on fundamental aspects of phase separation in polymer-blend thin films. A key feature underlying the theoretical models is the unification of one-dimensional thermodynamic phase equilibria with film evolution phenomena in two- and three dimensions. Initially, an established 'phase portrait' method, useful for visualising and calculating phase equilibria of polymer-blend films, is generalised to systems without convenient simplifying symmetries. Thermodynamic equilibria alone are then used to explain a film roughening mechanism in which laterally coexisting phases can have different depths in order to minimise free energy. The phase portraits are then utilised to demonstrate that simulations of lateral phase separation via a transient wetting layer, which conform very well with experiments, can be satisfactorily explained by 1D phase equilibria and a 'surface bifurcation' mechanism. Lastly, a novel 3D model of coupled phase separation and dewetting is developed, which demonstrates that surface roughening shadows phase separation in thin films.

Elastomer Stereospecific Polymerization (Advances in Chemistry Series, Volume 052) - PDF
نویسندگان: B. L. Johnson and Murray Goodman خلاصه: Addition polymerization, initiated by organometallic compounds, has in recent years aroused widespread interest mainly because of the stereospeciflc character of many of these systems. It soon became apparent that the chain propagation reaction in these systems differed markedly from that of the wellknown free radical polymerizations in that it involved an orientation of the incoming monomer instead of a more random reaction. However, elucidating the detailed mechanism of this important step has been difficult owing to lack of knowledge about the exact structure of the organometallic compound as well as the heterogeneous nature of most such systems. The available knowledge of stereoregular polymerization (1), anionic propagation kinetics (13), and organolithium polymerization (2) has recently been reviewed. Based on presently available knowledge, therefore, it is now possible to sketch some general guide lines toward a better understanding of these phenomena.
