The process of heating and reshaping plastics sheet and film materials has been in use since the beginning of the plastics industry. This process is known as thermoforming. Today this process is used for industrial products including signage, housings, and hot tubs. It also produces much of the packaging in use today including blister packs, egg cartons, and food storage containers. This process has many advantages over other methods of producing these products, but also it has some limitations. This book has a twofold purpose. It is designed to be used a text book for a course on thermoforming. It is also intended to be an application guide for professionals in the field of thermoforming including manufacturing, process and quality engineers and managers. This book is focused on process application rather than theory. It refers to real products and processes with the intent of understanding the real issues faced in this industry. In addition to materials and processes, part and tool design are covered. Quality control is critical to any operation and this is also covered in this text. Two areas of focus in today’s industry include Lean operations and environmental issues. Both of these topics are also included

چکیده فارسی

فرایند گرم کردن و تغییر شکل مواد ورق و فیلم پلاستیکی از ابتدای صنعت پلاستیک مورد استفاده قرار گرفته است. این فرآیند به عنوان ترموفرمینگ شناخته می شود. امروزه از این فرآیند برای محصولات صنعتی از جمله تابلوها، محفظه ها و جکوزی ها استفاده می شود. همچنین بسیاری از بسته بندی های مورد استفاده امروزه از جمله بسته های تاول، کارتن تخم مرغ و ظروف نگهداری مواد غذایی را تولید می کند. این فرآیند نسبت به سایر روش‌های تولید این محصولات دارای مزایای بسیاری است، اما محدودیت‌هایی نیز دارد. این کتاب هدفی دوگانه دارد. این به گونه ای طراحی شده است که از یک کتاب درسی برای دوره ای در مورد شکل دهی حرارتی استفاده شود. همچنین در نظر گرفته شده است که یک راهنمای کاربردی برای متخصصان در زمینه ترموفرمینگ از جمله مهندسین و مدیران تولید، فرآیند و کیفیت باشد. این کتاب به جای تئوری، بر روی کاربرد فرآیند تمرکز دارد. به محصولات و فرآیندهای واقعی با هدف درک مسائل واقعی در این صنعت اشاره دارد. علاوه بر مواد و فرآیندها، طراحی قطعات و ابزار پوشش داده شده است. کنترل کیفیت برای هر عملیاتی حیاتی است و این نیز در این متن پوشش داده شده است. دو حوزه مورد توجه در صنعت امروز شامل عملیات ناب و مسائل زیست محیطی است. هر دوی این موضوعات نیز گنجانده شده است
