Trump as the 45th president of the United States. To add to the head- spinning element of the moment, exit polls showed that white evangelical Christians who voted had pulled the lever for Trump at a rate of about 81 percent. I remember staying up late on election night as the results rolled in. I sat alone, my wife having long since gone to bed with the resolution that seeing the results live on television would not change the outcome. It was dark and I was toggling my eyes between the television screen and the Twitter feed on my phone. When it was clear that Trump had won, it became nearly impossible for me to grab and hold onto a single thought as my mind and emotions struggled to keep up with this new development. Finally, a feeling of dread settled over me as I reckoned with the fact that a blatant opponent of racial justice would soon occupy the highest political office in our nation. Then my thoughts focused on matters closer to home: my church. I attended a congregation that was predominantly white and evangelical. By the percentages and from my own interactions with them, I knew that many of my fellow churchgoers had voted for Trump. I couldn’t shake the pain I felt. I had made no secret about my concerns about this man, particularly his long record of trafficking in racial stereotypes and coddling racists. How could I go to church that Sunday with people who so clearly misunderstood and perhaps even dismissed my reality as a Black person in America? How could I sing, pray, and exchange pleasantries with folks who seemed not to care what their favored politician’s plans would mean for me, my family, our community, and our country? I knew I wouldn’t be able to fake it, and I didn’t want to try.

نویسندگان: خلاصه: Preface I have been teaching a Ph.D. course on “Applied General Equilibrium Models” at the University of São Paulo, Department of Economics, since 1999. Over the last editions of the course, the material was built around specific countries or regions, selected to be the object of modeling practices undertaken by the students. This praxis turned out to be very rewarding for the students since they were motivated to apply different techniques to study concrete problems in a common economic system. Throughout this process, they had the opportunity to collaborate among themselves and interact with scholars from the study regions, often generating scholarly publications. We had already worked with countries such as Brazil, Chile, Greece, and Paraguay, and with different regional contexts, especially within Brazil. Colombia had always been a top candidate to receive our attention. Our previous engagement with colleagues from the Centro de Estudios Económicos Regionales (CEER), a research center specialized in Regional and Urban Economics at the Banco de la República— the Colombian Central Bank—provided a unique opportunity to develop a special edition of the course on the country. During a visit to Cartagena in 2019, Jaime Bonet and I finally agreed to use Colombia as the case study in the forthcoming edition of the course. In the introduction, readers are encouraged to use the Reader's Guide, which arranges entries thematically-indeed, many entries appear in multiple categories of the guide, and aspects of any given topic can range across the two volumes. For example, the ''Death Penalty'' entry does not include the same information found in the ''Racial Bias and the Death Penalty'' entry. The text offers the occasional unnecessary observation, such as the first sentence in the ''Sex Offender Community Notification (Megan's Laws)'' entry: ''Sexual assault is a serious problem of great concern.'' Well, yes, absolutely, but we don't need this encyclopedia to tell us that. BOTTOM LINE There is no other reference work on psychology and the law, so libraries supporting curricula in this area may consider purchasing. But because this field of study is still in its infancy, and it remains to be seen whether it will grow into something major, this set is otherwise an optional purchase for most libraries.
