The Bookshop of the World: Making and Trading Books in the Dutch Golden Age - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Andrew Pettegree; Arthur der Weduwen خلاصه: The untold story of how the Dutch conquered the European book market and became the world's greatest bibliophiles—“an instant classic on Dutch book history” (BMGN - Low Countries Historical Review) "[An] excellent contribution to book history."—Robert Darnton, New York Review of Books The Dutch Golden Age has long been seen as the age of Rembrandt and Vermeer, whose paintings captured the public imagination and came to represent the marvel that was the Dutch Republic. Yet there is another, largely overlooked marvel in the Dutch world of the seventeenth century: books. In this fascinating account, Andrew Pettegree and Arthur der Weduwen show how the Dutch produced many more books than pictures and bought and owned more books per capita than any other part of Europe. Key innovations in marketing, book auctions, and newspaper advertising brought stability to a market where elsewhere publishers faced bankruptcy, and created a population uniquely well-informed and politically engaged. This book tells for the first time the remarkable story of the Dutch conquest of the European book world and shows the true extent to which these pious, prosperous, quarrelsome, and generous people were shaped by what they read.

Embrace the Mayhem: An evidence based approach to trading success - Original PDF
Embrace the Mayhem: An evidence based approach to trading success - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Robot Wealth خلاصه: How this book is organised You can imagine this book is split into two halves: The first half is all about arming you with skepticism, diligence and healthy expectations. Its purpose is to protect you from expensive failed strategies built on bad advice or assumptions. It’s to guard you against greedy brokers and subtle deceptions in “harmless” trading content. It’s crucial you understand this before moving on. So, please be patient in going through these initial chapters. The second half of this book is where we unravel the good stuff. We’ll talk about exactly what works in the markets, including the strategies, inefficiencies and approach we’ve used to grow capital into the 8-figures for ourselves and our firms. We’ll also talk about how you can harness this approach even in the face of retail-level restrictions, and the next steps you may want to consider to begin this journey on the right foot. It’s hard to communicate just how much of a head start this will give you, especially over where I started out. If your excitement evaporates after we lay out this vision, then consider this time well spent. You’ve been spared valuable years and hard-earned dollars on a pursuit that requires complete, obsessive devotion over a long period of time in order to succeed. If on the other hand you are more excited than ever after discovering the vision and roadmap we lay out, then let’s get after it! You are among a rare breed of individuals destined for a fascinating, stimulating and potentially very profitable lifelong journey. But before we do that fun stuff, you probably want to know why you should listen to us. Good on you for being skeptical. Here’s a little about us
Trading Spaces: The Colonial Marketplace and the Foundations of American Capitalism - Original PDF
Trading Spaces: The Colonial Marketplace and the Foundations of American Capitalism - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Emma Hart خلاصه: When we talk about the economy, “the market” is often just an abstraction. While the exchange of goods was historically tied to a particular place, capitalism has gradually eroded this connection to create our current global trading systems. In Trading Spaces, Emma Hart argues that Britain’s colonization of North America was a key moment in the market’s shift from place to idea, with major consequences for the character of the American economy. Hart’s book takes in the shops, auction sites, wharves, taverns, fairs, and homes of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century America—places where new mechanisms and conventions of trade arose as Europeans re-created or adapted continental methods to new surroundings. Since those earlier conventions tended to rely on regulation more than their colonial offspring did, what emerged in early America was a less fettered brand of capitalism. By the nineteenth century this had evolved into a market economy that would not look too foreign to contemporary Americans. To tell this complex transnational story of how our markets came to be, Hart looks back farther than most historians of US capitalism, rooting these markets in the norms of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century Britain. Perhaps most important, this is not a story of specific commodity markets over time but rather is a history of the trading spaces themselves: the physical sites in which the grubby work of commerce occurred and where the market itself was born.
Lecture Notes in Market Microstructure and Trading - Original PDF
Lecture Notes in Market Microstructure and Trading - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Peter Joakim Westerholm خلاصه: This book, written by Joakim Westerholm, Professor of Finance and former trading professional, is intended to be used as basis for developing courses in Securities markets, Trading, and Market microstructure and connects theoretic rigor with practical real world applications. Market technology evolves, the roles of market participants change, and whole market segments disappear to be replaced by new ways to exchange securities. Yet, the same underlying economic principles continue to drive trading in securities markets. Thus, the scope of the book is global, providing a framework that is relevant both for current market designs and for future markets we will see develop. It is designed to stay relevant in a rapidly evolving field. The book contains a selection of lecture notes through which students will gain an in-depth understanding of the mechanism that drives trading in securities markets. The book also contains another set of lecture notes with more advanced, research-based material, suitable for Honours or Master level research students, or for PhD candidates. The material is self-explanatory and can also be used for self-study, preferably in conjunction with assigned readings.
