Teaching Family Therapy - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Ros Draper خلاصه: The teaching of family therapy has been the subject of serious scrutiny since the onset of training and accreditation many years ago, yet there are relatively few attempts to apply what we know about systems and the ways they change family therapy teaching as a two-way process. It is as though family therapy teachers were preoccupied with the content of what should be taught, and were not able to direct their attention to the process by which people learned. The authors began by describing the way they conceptualize the "learning context" which sets the frame for all the teaching they do. Then they discuss the process of setting up a family therapy course, e.g. "What is the best way to negotiate with a training officer to set up a course in a local area?". The book then moves to creating the course syllabus, and some of the practical problems-from lateness to mechanical failures-of getting the course off the ground. The family therapy courses being described are generic courses which cover all the major schools of thought from Structuralist to Strategic to systemic to Constructivist approaches. The unique contribution of this book is the many carefully crafted exercises which form the heart of the teaching/learning experience. Each exercise is designed to teach particular content, such as "enactment", or "circular questioning", which is related to a particular family therapy approach, yet the exercise is also designed with the learning context in mind and it pays attention to the ongoing relationship between teacher and student to maximize the learning which can take place.

Play Therapy with Children in Crisis: Individual, Group, and Family Treatment, 3rd edition - Original PDF
Play Therapy with Children in Crisis: Individual, Group, and Family Treatment, 3rd edition - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Nancy Boyd Webb DSW BCD RPT-S, MD Lenore C. Terr خلاصه: Crises and traumatic events are ubiquitous in modern life and affect people of all ages. Contrary to the myth that the magic years of childhood are a period of guileless innocence and carefree play, the reality of the preteen years, like that of later life, includes experiences that provoke anger, jealousy, fear, and grief as well as joy and pleasure. When children experience crises or traumas, their families and communities inevitably also are involved. Sometimes adults actually cause children to be victimized, as in cases of abuse. In other situations (such as natural disasters), no one person is responsible, and the entire affected community must deal together with the shared experience. This revised volume begins with a focus on the family and community envi- ronment in which children live, because of the importance of this social context to the nature of children’s reactions in crises or traumatic situations. We know that children depend on the adults around them for security and protection, and the younger they are, the more this is the case. Furthermore, evidence in the professional literature increasingly attests to the influence of adults’ responses to crises or traumas on the subsequent nature of children’s reactions (Arroyo & Eth, 1996; McFarlane, 1987; Rustemi & Karanei, 1996; Pfefferbaum, 1997; Swenson et al., 1996). Because children watch and take their cues from adults, when their caretakers feel and act terrified, children become even more panicked—since they know that they themselves are helpless and powerless.

German Philosophy and the First World War - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Nicolas de Warren خلاصه: How did the First World War, the so-called 'Great War' - widely seen on all sides as 'the war to end all wars' - impact the development of German philosophy? Combining history and biography with astute philosophical and textual analysis, Nicolas de Warren addresses here the intellectual trajectories of ten significant wartime philosophers: Ernst Bloch, Martin Buber, Ernst Cassirer, Hermann Cohen, György Lukács, Martin Heidegger, Edmund Husserl, Franz Rosenzweig, Max Scheler and Georg Simmel.

Optical Character Recognition Systems for Different Languages with Soft Computing - Original PDF
Optical Character Recognition Systems for Different Languages with Soft Computing - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Arindam Chaudhuri, Krupa Mandaviya, Pratixa Badelia, Soumya K Ghosh (auth.) خلاصه: The book offers a comprehensive survey of soft-computing models for optical character recognition systems. The various techniques, including fuzzy and rough sets, artificial neural networks and genetic algorithms, are tested using real texts written in different languages, such as English, French, German, Latin, Hindi and Gujrati, which have been extracted by publicly available datasets. The simulation studies, which are reported in details here, show that soft-computing based modeling of OCR systems performs consistently better than traditional models. Mainly intended as state-of-the-art survey for postgraduates and researchers in pattern recognition, optical character recognition and soft computing, this book will be useful for professionals in computer vision and image processing alike, dealing with different issues related to optical character recognition.

نویسندگان: Mohamed Cheriet, Nawwaf Kharma, Cheng-Lin Liu, Ching Suen خلاصه: "Much of pattern recognition theory and practice, including methods such as Support Vector Machines, has emerged in an attempt to solve the character recognition problem. This book is written by very well-known academics who have worked in the field for many years and have made significant and lasting contributions. The book will no doubt be of value to students and practitioners." -Sargur N. Srihari, SUNY Distinguished Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, and Director, Center of Excellence for Document Analysis and Recognition (CEDAR), University at Buffalo, The State University of New York "The disciplines of optical character recognition and document image analysis have a history of more than forty years. In the last decade, the importance and popularity of these areas have grown enormously. Surprisingly, however, the field is not well covered by any textbook. This book has been written by prominent leaders in the field. It includes all important topics in optical character recognition and document analysis, and is written in a very coherent and comprehensive style. This book satisfies an urgent need. It is a volume the community has been awaiting for a long time, and I can enthusiastically recommend it to everybody working in the area." -Horst Bunke, Professor, Institute of Computer Science and Applied Mathematics (IAM), University of Bern, Switzerland In Character Recognition Systems, the authors provide practitioners and students with the fundamental principles and state-of-the-art computational methods of reading printed texts and handwritten materials. The information presented is analogous to the stages of a computer recognition system, helping readers master the theory and latest methodologies used in character recognition in a meaningful way. This book covers: * Perspectives on the history, applications, and evolution of Optical Character Recognition (OCR) * The most widely used pre-processing techniques, as well as methods for extracting character contours and skeletons * Evaluating extracted features, both structural and statistical * Modern classification methods that are successful in character recognition, including statistical methods, Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), Support Vector Machines (SVM), structural methods, and multi-classifier methods * An overview of word and string recognition methods and techniques * Case studies that illustrate practical applications, with descriptions of the methods and theories behind the experimental results Each chapter contains major steps and tricks to handle the tasks described at-hand. Researchers and graduate students in computer science and engineering will find this book useful for designing a concrete system in OCR technology, while practitioners will rely on it as a valuable resource for the latest advances and modern technologies that aren't covered elsewhere in a single book.
