نویسندگان: Xiang Xiansheng خلاصه: There have been many types of governments in history and society. From the perspec- tive of market economy alone, there are also many types. So far, there have been four types of market economy in human society, namely free market economy, market economy with government intervention, market economy in welfare states, and socialist market economy, and their corresponding types of government are inaction-oriented government, management-oriented government, welfare-oriented government, ruling-oriented government, and service-oriented government. The inaction-oriented government emphasizes that the government is only a “night watchman”; the management-oriented government intervenes in economic develop- ment; the welfare-oriented government is to provide social welfare for the citizens; the ruling-oriented government directly manages and takes over the economy; and the service-oriented government is characterized by the service providers undertaken by the government in the economy and society.1 Either type of government is closely related to social, political and economic conditions, and there is an interactive relationship of “adaptation-inadaptation- adaptation” between them, that is, each type of government is always adapted to the prevailing socio-political and economic conditions at the initial stage of its emer- gence. But this kind of adaptive relationship is a dynamic process, and at a certain stage, there will be contradictions and conflicts. As such contradictions and conflicts are irreconcilable, a new type of government will emerge, which is the alternating development process of government types.

Healthy Ageing in Singapore Opportunities, Challenges and the Way Forward - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Sabrina Ching Yuen Luk خلاصه: Singapore is the world’s second-fastest ageing society. It will become a super-aged society by 2030. The twin challenges of low fertility rate and longer life expectancy have resulted in a shrinking workforce, an increase in old-age dependency ratio and feminization of ageing in the country. This chapter examines the government’s response to popula- tion ageing in Singapore since 1982. The Singapore government adopts the “many helping hands” approach to enable individuals, families and community partners to play their part in supporting and caring for older adults. It also promulgates important legislations to protect the rights of older adults. There is no one-size-fits-all answer to healthy ageing. How an individual, the community and the government understand and inter- pret the concept of healthy ageing may vary among cities or countries. Besides, how the government in a city or a country develops its healthy ageing framework or implements its healthy ageing strategy very much depends on the political, economic, social, cultural and historical context. Nevertheless, achieving healthy ageing should be able to add years to one’s life as well as add life to one’s years

Rice Green Revolution in Sub-Saharan Africa - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Keijiro Otsuka · Yukichi Mano · Kazushi Takahashi خلاصه: The time is ripe to pursue a Green Revolution in rice in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) as a means of promoting food security and poverty reduction. This is partly because rice is an up-and-coming crop in this region, and partly because, as will be demonstrated in this volume, we have now accumulated deep knowledge about rice cultivation in SSA. With the aim of generating relevant policy recommendations, this book attempts to show what needs to be done to realize a rice Green Revolution in SSA. It is based on more than ten years of empirical inquiries into rice production by our research team in selected countries, namely Mozambique, Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Ghana, and Senegal, along with the newly added case of Cote d’Ivoire. This chapter explains why rice is important, provides a conceptual framework for realizing a rice Green Revolution, and proposes several major hypotheses to be tested in this book

Natural Resource Degradation and Human-Nature Wellbeing Cases of Biodiversity Resources, Water Resources, and Climate Change - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir · Tanjila Afrin · Mohammad Saeed Islam خلاصه: he worldwide concerns for deforestation, degraded soil, polluted air, declined water, endangered species and climate change are all well-meaning. Yet the causes, effects and solutions warrant meticulous scrutiny. The concerns have heightened in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, as there is a direct linkage between nature’s destruction and the outbreak of disease. It is imperative to protect nature by halting natural resource degradation to prevent future pandemics. In this backdrop, the book focuses on natural resource governance mechanisms illustrated with cases of biodiversity, water resources and climate change to identify the underlying causes of resource degradation, especially in the context of developing countries. It also attempts to bring forth a new understanding regarding the usage, management and conservation of natural resources in a sustainable manner. The broad concerns that arise in the contemporary era are to (a) conserve nature in all its forms and functions and (b) create an equitable home and achieve a high standard of living for people on this planet without destabilising critical planetary processes (O’Neill et al., 2018; WWF, 2016). These dual challenges are also delin- eated in the United Nations’ 2030 agenda for sustainable development. The Sustain- able Development Goals (SDGs)—17 in total—under the agenda include several goals (Goals 6, 13, 14 and 15) which focus on nature and the environment directly (Elder & Olsen, 2019; Scharlemann et al., 2020), while other goals have indirect environmental implications as well.

نویسندگان: An Thinh Nguyen · Thu Thuy Pham · Joon Song · Yen-Ling Lin · Manh Cuong Dong خلاصه: CSR is the way in which corporations attribute their resources to take responsibility in order to improve the society and environment for a long term which goes beyond the merely economic strategy and legal requirements. It is one of the important factors affecting firm performance. Along with the shift from “traditional CSR” to “modern CSR,” our study assesses the impact of online CSR disclosure on firm performance of listed banks in Vietnam to fill the research gap both in theory and in experimental application. Content analysis and Pool-OLS regression methods are applied to calculate and evaluate the results of testing the research hypotheses. The results show that online CSR disclosure produces a positive effect on firm perfor- mance in terms of ROA indicator and the online disclosure of CSR information can produce protection shield to reduce the negative impacts of uncertainty events as COVID-19. Our study provides empirical suggestion that managers should utilize CSR as a strategic action to gain higher firm performance. This result implies that in terms of policy, it is necessary to establish standardized systems that guide and control CSR practices to enhance the effectiveness of CSR disclosure

Rabbits tend to be easygoing, gentle, quiet, elegant, skillful, strong inner compass, and particularly responsible. I arrived in Hong Kong in 1975, a “Rat” industrious, hardworking, ambi- tious, and perfectionist...difficult to work with. My adventure then takes me to Guangzhou and mainland China. China continues to expand as a market, sourcing opportunity and as an economic global force. Since 1978, nine American presidents have held office. Four generations of political and business leaders in China have contributed to China’s growt

Economic Development and the Environmental Ecosystem The Role of Energy Policy in Economic Growth - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Hasan Dincer • Serhat Yüksel خلاصه: The energy needed since the first day of human history is necessary for many things that are still used today to function. Energy is one of the main factors affecting the economies of all countries of the world (Martínez et al., 2022; Sun et al., 2022). With the increasing world population, the need for energy is also increasing (Kafka et al., 2022; Mukhtarov et al., 2022). Therefore, energy consumption tends to increase day by day. However, the energy supply is limited. This situation reveals the importance of the need for energy (Hong et al., 2020). Energy has various forms. The history of humanity has started to use energy with muscle power. Subsequently, heat energy was discovered (Dong et al., 2022; Dinçer et al., 2022a, 2022b, 2022c). Later, energy types such as coal, oil, and natural gas, which are expressed as underground resources, were discovered. With the industrial revolution, energy use has been moved to a different dimension (Zhang et al., 2022; Yüksel & Dinçer, 2022). With the industrial revolution and the introduction of oil and electricity into human life, energy consumption has increased a lot (Gielen et al., 2019). Energy is one of the most important elements that humanity needs. If the use of energy had not been developed at this level, many works would have to be done with manpower (Carayannis et al., 2022; Li et al., 2022a, 2022b; Yüksel et al., 2022a,

Agricultural Development in Asia and Africa - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Jonna P. Estudillo · Yoko Kijima · Tetsushi Sonobe خلاصه: Agriculture plays an important role in an economy. It supplies food, labor, and capital; serves as a domestic market for industrial commodities; and is a source of foreign exchange through exports. Many believe that Asia’s take-off to rapid growth and development was propelled by productive agriculture and a dynamic rural economy. This book explores the multifaceted aspects of agricultural development and rural transformation in Asia and discusses the similarity of the Asian experience with that of contemporary Africa. In this book, Asia means tropical Asia, and Africa means Sub-Saharan Africa. Tropical Asia includes Southeast Asia and South Asia. The most important finding presented in this book is that African agricultural development has evolved following the pathways of Asian agricultural development. The common pathways are borrowed technology from abroad and adaptive research exemplified by modern seeds, fertilizer, and mechanical technologies in rice farming; secured property rights on natural resources; adoption of ICTs; investments in human capital, including training; and launching of the high-value revolution (or high-value agriculture). In both continents, agricultural development started in the crop sector, which had a strong tendency to induce the dynamic development of other sectors in rural areas
