Family Therapy: An Overview - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Herbert Goldenberg, Irene Goldenberg خلاصه: A family is far more than a collection of individuals sharing a specific physical and psychological space. While families occur in a diversity of forms and complexities in today’s rapidly changing society, and represent a multiplicity of cultural heritages, each may be considered a natural, sustained social system1 with properties all its own—one that has evolved a set of rules, is replete with assigned and ascribed roles for its members, has an organized power structure, has developed intricate overt and covert forms of communication, and has elaborated ways of negotiating and problem solving that permit various tasks to be performed effectively. The relation- ship between members of this microculture is deep and multilayered, and is based largely on a shared history, shared internalized perceptions and assumptions about the world, and a shared sense of purpose. Within such a system, individuals are tied to one another by powerful, durable, reciprocal, multigenerational emotional attachments and loyalties that may fluctuate in intensity and psychological dis- tances between members over time, but nevertheless persist over the lifetime of the family. Each family system is itself embedded in a community and society at large, is molded by its existence at a particular place and time in history, and is shaped further by a multitude of interlocking phenomena such as

Family Art Therapy: Foundations of Theory and Practice (Family Therapy and Counseling) - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Christine Kerr, Janice Hoshino خلاصه: Family therapy textbooks are plentiful for the beginning family therapist, the educator, and the seasoned clinician. In many textbooks, the vast number of theoretical paradigms, as well as applied clinical vignettes, provide those who are interested in skills advancement with numerous resources. Within the field of traditional family therapy, there are extensive family therapy theories and depth within any one given schema. Various family models of traditional family therapy have evolved and become differentiated since the 1960s, the classification of which continues to undergo change and reevaluation. Classic family therapy theory can and is currently being integrated within art psychotherapy treatment. What is unique to the practice of clinical art psychotherapy is the use of action-oriented art processes that can work in tandem with traditional family therapy verbal dialoguing. Consequently, art interventions have the potential to parallel many of the theoretical paradigms of conventional family therapy. Much like traditional family therapy, fam- ily art therapy does not focus on the individual alone but treats the nuclear family, specific family dyads and often the family intergenerationally. The art therapist and the family therapy practitioner, both of whom work with fami- lies, should have an understanding of the variety of theoretical viewpoints and associative art interventions to interactively and integratively meet the affective and developmental needs of client families. As art therapy educators and authors in this book, we discussed the need for a comprehensive, updated family art therapy text. Noting that Helen Land- garten authored the seminal family art therapy text in 1987, we concluded that a restructured family art therapy text could draw together an overview of classic and postmodern theories with applied art techniques. Other books that have been written on family art therapy after this date have either focused on specific client populations or have integrated limited family therapy theory with the art therapy process.

Family Therapy as an Alternative to Medication: An Appraisal of Pharmland - Original PDF
Family Therapy as an Alternative to Medication: An Appraisal of Pharmland - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Phoebe Prosky خلاصه: This text addresses the issue of the increased reliance on pharmaceuticals as a "quick fix" for treating mental illness. Psychiatric medications have achieved dominance in mental health practices, not because of efficacy, but because of political and marketing practices, and this rush to medicate has largely eclipsed the family systems model of psychotherapy. This book awakens a broader awareness of how invaluable systems-oriented psychotherapy still is, even in the age of medical breakthroughs. It analyses both positive and negative effects of drug therapy and offers several approaches towards integration. It presents treatment illustrations for various disorders, along with potential problems that can arise from trying to combine a medical model with family systems work. The work as a whole is not a monologue on the evils of drug therapy. Rather, the book takes the position that family systems approaches are powerful tools that, when combined with appropriate medication, act synergistically in effecting positive outcomes of treatment.
