Teaching Family Therapy - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Ros Draper خلاصه: The teaching of family therapy has been the subject of serious scrutiny since the onset of training and accreditation many years ago, yet there are relatively few attempts to apply what we know about systems and the ways they change family therapy teaching as a two-way process. It is as though family therapy teachers were preoccupied with the content of what should be taught, and were not able to direct their attention to the process by which people learned. The authors began by describing the way they conceptualize the "learning context" which sets the frame for all the teaching they do. Then they discuss the process of setting up a family therapy course, e.g. "What is the best way to negotiate with a training officer to set up a course in a local area?". The book then moves to creating the course syllabus, and some of the practical problems-from lateness to mechanical failures-of getting the course off the ground. The family therapy courses being described are generic courses which cover all the major schools of thought from Structuralist to Strategic to systemic to Constructivist approaches. The unique contribution of this book is the many carefully crafted exercises which form the heart of the teaching/learning experience. Each exercise is designed to teach particular content, such as "enactment", or "circular questioning", which is related to a particular family therapy approach, yet the exercise is also designed with the learning context in mind and it pays attention to the ongoing relationship between teacher and student to maximize the learning which can take place.
Second Thoughts on the Theory and Practice of the Milan Approach to Family Therapy - Original PDF
Second Thoughts on the Theory and Practice of the Milan Approach to Family Therapy - Original PDF
نویسندگان: David Campbell خلاصه: Second Thoughts on the Theory and Practice of the Milan Approach to Family Therapy is a full discussion of the way the original techniques of the Milan Approach have been affected by current thinking in the family therapy field. Hypothesizing, neutrality and circularity, for example, are all redefined in response to the challenge of new clinical problems, such as child abuse, and new thinking from areas such as linguistics and feminine. The authors refer back to their original article "Working With the Milan Method: 20 Questions" in order to chart the changes which have taken place over the last ten years and, similarly, richly illustrate the present work with clinical examples.
Systems Theory in Action: Applications to Individual, Couple, and Family Therapy - Original PDF
Systems Theory in Action: Applications to Individual, Couple, and Family Therapy - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Shelly Smith-Acuña خلاصه: Smith-Acuña illuminates the structural hierarchy, roles, and boundaries that give a system structure. The relationship between parts and wholes is both simple and profound, and particularly important in looking at systems structure. These morsels of wisdom are good examples of Smith-Acuña's grace as a systems theory tour guide: one moment she's digging deeper into the nuances among the theories, the next moment she's simplifying without dumbing down, but in a manner that is enormously liberating. We enjoy the fun, full, and informed journey with her." —Frank S. Pittman III, MD A practical presentation of systems theory as a fundamental model for clinical practice Valuable for seasoned mental health professionals as well as those in training, Systems Theory in Action presents systems theory—the unifying principles surrounding the organization and functioning of systems—as it applies to individual, couples, and family therapy. This innovative book explores systems theory as an effective model for general mental health practice. It examines the role systems theory can play, specifically in understanding clients' presenting problems in context, within the various systems and subsystems in which the problems are embedded. Filled with realistic clinical stories illustrating relevant concepts that tie theory to technique, Systems Theory in Action takes an in-depth look at: Systems theory as a solid guide through the dynamic process of psychotherapy The multilayered value of observing human interactions through a systems view Systemic thinking, its core components, and how it serves to reveal a "big picture" view of clients and their presenting problems Systems Theory in Action is a unique contribution to the field, translating the technical terminology of general systems thinking into common, everyday language.

Positive Family Therapy: The Family as Therapist - Original PDF
Positive Family Therapy: The Family as Therapist - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Dr. med. Nossrat Peseschkian (auth.) خلاصه: The author's principal aim is to win over the patient through the development of the "positive" aspects of his psychopathology-a concern the significance of which I have also discovered, especially in schizophrenic therapy. It is in this specific sense that Peseschkian speaks of "positive" psychotherapy. His model is a notable synthesis of psychodynamic and behavior-therapeutic elements, making an essential contribution to unified relationships within psychotherapy. In this way Peseschkian is attempting not to directly confront the patient's resistances. The consultation takes place in a loving way through allusions to poetry, proverbs and oriental fairy tales and myths, to which Peseschkian, as a Persian, has direct access. His ability to offer his patient a great treasure of handed-down wisdom knows no bounds. Anyone who has personally experi enced the author's therapeutic enthusiasm and optimism will understand why this method of short psychotherapeutic procedure is highly successful in its effects. The Challenge of Family Therapy: A Dialogue for Child Psychiatric Educators - Original PDF
The Challenge of Family Therapy: A Dialogue for Child Psychiatric Educators - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Kalman Flomenhaft Ph.D. (auth.), Kalman Flomenhaft, Adolph E. Christ (eds.) خلاصه: This volume on Family Therapy Training, edited by Kalman Flomenhaft, Ph. D. and Adolph E. Christ, M. D. , is the outgrowth of a successful conference on Family Therapy in the Training of Child Psychiatrists sponsored by the Department of Psychiatry at the Downstate Medical Center on December 8 and 9, 1978. The attendance and enthusiastic participation at this conference reflected the growing interest on the part of psychiatrists and other mental health professionals in the theory, practice, and teaching of family therapy. That the conference was held at all presupposed the value that psychiatric educators are attaching to the incorporation of family therapy teaching in the educational development of psychiatrists. While the conference was dedicated to family therapy training for child psychiatrists, this volume is broadened to include family therapy training for all psychiatrists and mental health profes sionals. The various chapters delineate the issues in the teaching of family therapy, both theoretical and practical. The richness of the chapters that follow grows out of the depth of practical experience of the various authors in developing family therapy training in established programs where resistance to new ideas as well as structural changes in curriculum are predictable. The nature of both the theoretical and practical aspects of such resistances is well described. The authors also emphasize what is required to launch a successful training program in child psychiatry, stressing the importance of attractive role models as teachers of family therapy.
Advanced Monitoring and Procedures for Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care - Original PDF
Advanced Monitoring and Procedures for Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Jamie M. Burkitt Creedon, Harold Davis خلاصه: The textbook is organized roughly by organ system or general topic, but there is considerable overlap in some areas. For instance, some authors of device insertion chapters included a maintenance section, and maintenance of that device may also be covered in another chapter specifically on insertion site maintenance or artificial airway maintenance, and so on. Standardized protocols are included for procedures for which they were deemed useful and appropriate. These protocols are based on best-available evidence and guidelines, and where such citations were unavailable or inappropriate, they are based on author experience. We hope these protocols will help raise and equalize the standard of care across our profession, and serve as the backbone for a protocol book to use in your emergency or critical care practice.
Family Therapy: An Interactional Approach - Original PDF
Family Therapy: An Interactional Approach - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Maurizio Andolfi (auth.) خلاصه: Dr. Maurizio Andolfi, "Andi" to my dog and me, is one of the fourth generation family therapy theorists. This book, which he calls "interac tional," is probably one you would not enjoy. Maybe you could give it to a rival colleague on his birthday. Combining the teachings of Zwerling and Laperriere with Ferber is confusing. Add to that a Horney analysis and stir with two ounces of Minuchin and a dram of Haley, and Andolfi becomes distracting to his friends and colleagues. His work with Can crini reacculturated him somewhat, but a Roman is a Roman, and, of course, he could not understand such problems as those we conquer in the United States. Assuming your rival is a well-trained, cause-and-effect thinker, you might find ways to watch him squirm. If he has not tried paradoxical methods, expect him to take a long vacation from work. If he is already a good family therapist, he may become a bit hypomanic, and his team may talk to you in private. Encourage them to suggest that he work harder and stop reading the book or, better still, donate it to the social work school library; they will read anything. If the team complains that the book advises teaching sick families how to be their own therapists, resist any impulse to check this out. No family could become self reparative when it is already dysfunctional. We know that professional help is the only hope.
Marriage and Family Therapy: A Practice-Oriented Approach - Original PDF
Marriage and Family Therapy: A Practice-Oriented Approach - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Linda Metcalf خلاصه: There are many different models of marriage and family therapy; the challenge for students and beginning practitioners is deciding which one best suits their individual purposes. This highly practical volume elucidates the defining characteristics of 14 contemporary models, including their history, views of change, views of family and the role of the therapist; and methods of assessing family dynamics, goal setting; facilitating change; and knowing when to terminate. Each chapter also includes a template for implementing therapy models, and realistic case studies-many drawn from actual practice-to illustrate how each model would address common issues. In addition, the volume includes extensive interviews with master therapists such as Albert Ellis, Insoo Kim Berg, Sue Johnson, Susan McDaniel, Derald Wing Sue, and many others. They share their ideas of the ways in which change occurs, how they set goals, and how they perform therapy. For further clarification, each therapist illustrates how he/she would proceed via the same case study. Learning how to perform effective family therapy can be an arduous process of trial and error, yet this resource will ease the way for students and currently practicing family therapists who need to revisit the basics.
