The Wheel of Time The Shamans of Ancient Mexico, Their Thoughts about Life, Death and the Universe - Epub + Converted PDF
نویسندگان: Carlos Castaneda خلاصه: World-renowned bestselling author Carlos Castaneda's selection of his writings on the shamans of ancient Mexico. Originally drawn to Yaqui Indian spiritual leader don Juan Matus for his knowledge of mind-altering plants, bestselling author Carlos Castaneda soon immersed himself in the sorcerer’s magical world entirely. Ten years after his first encounter with the shaman, Castaneda examines his field notes and comes to understand what don Juan knew all along—that these plants are merely a means to understanding the alternative realities that one cannot fully embrace on one’s own. In Journey to Ixtlan, Carlos Castaneda introduces readers to this new approach for the first time and explores, as he comes to experience it himself, his own final voyage into the teachings of don Juan, sharing with us what it is like to truly “stop the world” and perceive reality on his own terms.

Family Art Therapy: Foundations of Theory and Practice (Family Therapy and Counseling) - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Christine Kerr, Janice Hoshino خلاصه: Family therapy textbooks are plentiful for the beginning family therapist, the educator, and the seasoned clinician. In many textbooks, the vast number of theoretical paradigms, as well as applied clinical vignettes, provide those who are interested in skills advancement with numerous resources. Within the field of traditional family therapy, there are extensive family therapy theories and depth within any one given schema. Various family models of traditional family therapy have evolved and become differentiated since the 1960s, the classification of which continues to undergo change and reevaluation. Classic family therapy theory can and is currently being integrated within art psychotherapy treatment. What is unique to the practice of clinical art psychotherapy is the use of action-oriented art processes that can work in tandem with traditional family therapy verbal dialoguing. Consequently, art interventions have the potential to parallel many of the theoretical paradigms of conventional family therapy. Much like traditional family therapy, fam- ily art therapy does not focus on the individual alone but treats the nuclear family, specific family dyads and often the family intergenerationally. The art therapist and the family therapy practitioner, both of whom work with fami- lies, should have an understanding of the variety of theoretical viewpoints and associative art interventions to interactively and integratively meet the affective and developmental needs of client families. As art therapy educators and authors in this book, we discussed the need for a comprehensive, updated family art therapy text. Noting that Helen Land- garten authored the seminal family art therapy text in 1987, we concluded that a restructured family art therapy text could draw together an overview of classic and postmodern theories with applied art techniques. Other books that have been written on family art therapy after this date have either focused on specific client populations or have integrated limited family therapy theory with the art therapy process.

The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Carlos Castaneda خلاصه: A Yaqui way of knowledge. The teachings of don Juan is the story of a remarkable journey: the first awesome steps on the road to becoming a "man of knowledge" -- the road that continues with A Separate Reality and Journey to Ixtlan. "For me there is only the traveling on paths that have heart, on any path that may have heart. There I travel, and the only worthwhile challenge is to traverse its full length. And there I travel, looking, looking, breathlessly." -- Don Juan

Laboratory Handbook on Bovine Mastitis, 3rd Edition - PDF
نویسندگان: Pamela R. F. Adkins (Author), John R. Middleton (Editor), Lawrence Kenneth Fox (Editor), Gina Pighetti (Editor), Christina Petersson-Wolfe (Editor), National Mastitis Council (U.S.) خلاصه: The National Mastitis Council (NMC) released its third edition of the Laboratory Handbook on Bovine Mastitis. A 148-page book for laboratory diagnosticians, veterinarians, educators, students, researchers, technical specialists and dairy producers, it discusses the basic theories of microbial culture, mastitis diagnosis and pathogens, laboratory procedures and molecular pathogen diagnosis methods. Previous editions were published in 1987 and 1999. The new Chapter 4 addresses molecular techniques. These techniques are the most recent development in pathogen diagnosis and are becoming more accurate in identifying causative organisms by genus and species, as well as strain type. Mycoplasmas are now discussed in their own chapter – Chapter 8 – instead of with miscellaneous organisms. And, the new Chapter 12 covers on-farm culture systems. Users of the previous edition will find the current book’s format similar to the second edition. Microbial culture remains the backbone of mastitis diagnosis. Consequently, microbial culture methods are discussed and have been updated when appropriate. The book addresses the advantages and disadvantages of various techniques in terms of accuracy, specificity and sensitivity of detection, cost and turnaround time.

Elastomer Stereospecific Polymerization (Advances in Chemistry Series, Volume 052) - PDF
نویسندگان: B. L. Johnson and Murray Goodman خلاصه: Addition polymerization, initiated by organometallic compounds, has in recent years aroused widespread interest mainly because of the stereospeciflc character of many of these systems. It soon became apparent that the chain propagation reaction in these systems differed markedly from that of the wellknown free radical polymerizations in that it involved an orientation of the incoming monomer instead of a more random reaction. However, elucidating the detailed mechanism of this important step has been difficult owing to lack of knowledge about the exact structure of the organometallic compound as well as the heterogeneous nature of most such systems. The available knowledge of stereoregular polymerization (1), anionic propagation kinetics (13), and organolithium polymerization (2) has recently been reviewed. Based on presently available knowledge, therefore, it is now possible to sketch some general guide lines toward a better understanding of these phenomena.

Achievements and Legacy of the Obama Presidency: “Hope and Change?” - Original PDF
Achievements and Legacy of the Obama Presidency: “Hope and Change?” - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Michael Grossman, Ronald Eric Matthews, Francis Schortgen خلاصه: Campaigning on the simple mantra of HOPE, Obama’s mindset was that his legacy would not be one of race or ethnicity but one of positive change and unity across the political divide. He arrived in Washington, D.C. riding a wave of optimism as the American polity had grown tired and weary of the partisan politics and was looking for a “savior of sorts” who would restore their belief in the American dream and in equality and justice for all. But as Chuck Todd (2014: 471) notes, “hope is one thing, change another.” Obama would spend the next eight years fighting the partisanship and political dysfunction that he was elected to trans- form, including at times a debilitated Democratic controlled Congress and Republicans who sat out to stop every attempt of the president to bring about change. Despite all this apparent chaos, confusion and partisanship, Obama went to work to fulfill many of his campaign promises. In so doing, he would work with anyone who wanted to change the status quo. Obama would advocate for revising the social safety net programs and appear to be siding with Republicans while angering Democrats. At other times, he would side with Democrats for healthcare reform, gun control and amnesty for illegal immigrants to the disgust of his Republican counter- parts. When necessary, he would work around Congress by signing 276 executive orders and issuing another 1186 presidential proclamations. He gave us the Affordable Care Act, the stimulus, the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform, an executive action for Dreamers, the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” a nuclear deal with Iran, diplomatic relations with Cuba, a climate deal in Paris, a New START treaty, a reform of student-loan programs, and two liberal Supreme Court appointments (Frank 2019). As his second term came to a close, Obama would leave office with an impressive list of accomplishments but an approval rating 10 points lower than when he took office.1 When he left the Oval Office, the country had endured twenty-four straight years of polarizing presidents, all three of whom were elected, in part, to help end some of the acrimony (Todd 1 President Barack Obama would leave office with an approval rating of 57% according to a survey from the polling firm Gallup taken from January 9 to 15, 2017. Obama’s exiting approval rating is 23% points higher than those of former President George W. Bush but nine points lower than those of President Bill Clinton. 1 INTRODUCTION 3 2014: 490). But the divisiveness that had paralyzed so many presidents in their quest to fortify their legacy was waiting in the wings. Presidential legacies are often cemented by whom the electorate selects to take the place of the incumbent. Since the Civil War, only two presi- dents, Ulysses S. Grant and Ronald Reagan, have served two full terms, then given way to another member of their own party, winning a veri- table third term (Todd 2014: 481). Not so for President Obama. Despite having an “anointed successor” in Hillary Clinton and a seasoned Vice President in Joe Biden, Obama’s plan for a systematic overhaul of the bureaucracy and hope for an end to persistent inside-the-Beltway grid- lock would come to an abrupt halt. The plan to galvanize his legacy through the election of Hillary Clinton was stopped dead in its tracks when Republican maverick Donald J. Trump was elected the 45th Pres- ident of the United States in an election result that even the staunchest Republicans called shocking.
