Objections To Evolution - Epub + Converted PDF
نویسندگان: Dr. Nirushan Sivanesan خلاصه: Preface Evolutionary theory is the dominant scientific explanation for how all species came into existence. We are told there is such overwhelming evidence for the theory that it has become irrefutable. It is taught as fact in most science classrooms in the Western world, and the consensus in the scientific community is that the theory is true beyond doubt. In Western civilisation, if you do not subscribe to it, you are considered unintelligent or uneducated. However, there has been significant controversy and debate over the theory since it was first brought into the public domain about 160 years ago. This book attempts to explore this controversy and bring forth a case against evolutionary theory using various perspectives. It should be noted that this case does not attempt to disprove evolutionary theory, as this would appear to be a futile task, analogous to trying to disprove the existence of God. It only aims to demonstrate the flaws of the theory and address the pertinent question of whether the theory has been proven to a reasonable degree, such that it should be considered fact. This book is purely a collection of ideas and arguments designed to promote critical thinking and offer an alternative perspective. It critiques evolutionary theory primarily from a philosophical point of view. No new research, data or observations are provided. The focus is on criticising the reasoning that is being used and the conclusions that are being drawn from the information that evolutionists themselves use to formulate their theory. The majority of contemporary anti-evolution books are written from a religious point of view. Please note that this book is dissimilar in this regard: it attempts to discredit evolutionary theory without promoting religion or God. It is not advocating an alternative doctrine, nor advocating an active denial of the theory

نویسندگان: Kristin Kobes Du Mez خلاصه: INTRODUCTION ON A BITTERLY COLD DAY IN JANUARY 2016, Donald Trump stood on the stage of an auditorium at a small Christian college in Iowa. He boasted of his poll numbers and his crowd sizes. He warned of the dangers posed by Muslims and undocumented immigrants, and he talked of building a border wall. He denigrated American politicians as stupid, weak, and pathetic. He claimed that Christianity was “under siege” and urged Christians to band together and assert their power. He promised to lead. He had no doubts about the loyalty of his followers: “I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose any voters,” he claimed.1 That morning, the Rev. Robert Jeffress, pastor of First Baptist Dallas, introduced Trump. As a pastor Jeffress couldn’t endorse a candidate, but he made clear that he wouldn’t be there if he didn’t think Trump “would make a great president.” Jeffress wasn’t alone. Already at that point, before the Iowa caucuses at the beginning of February, 42 percent of white evangelicals supported Trump—more than any other candidate. The reason was simple, Jeffress contended. Evangelicals were “sick and tired of the status quo.” They were looking for the leader who would “reverse the downward death spiral of this nation that we love so dearly.”

نویسندگان: Mark Murphy خلاصه: M INTRODUCTION anaging difficult personalities is never fun. Most of these tough-to- manage people have had years of practice at behaving badly and very few of them have any desire to change. That’s why it takes a targeted, scientific approach to make an impact. This book shows you how to motivate the difficult personalities in your workplace to become more productive and pleasant to be around. You’ll learn how to dial back their negativity and to put a stop to the drama, confusion, chaos and conflict that makes them so problematic. Difficult personalities aren’t just annoying, frustrating and exhausting; in many cases they directly diminish (and even destroy) business value because they wield real power over other team members. And when those other team members find difficult personalities intimidating, demoralizing and fatiguing, you’re going to see higher turnover, lost productivity, breakdowns and miscommunication, and much more. Good people don’t want to work with low performers who divert the boss’s time and attention, slow down productivity, and who turn work into an emotionally difficult environment. When we conducted a survey of more than 70,000 employees, one question we asked was “What’s it like to work with folks who have a lousy attitude?” 87% said coworkers with poor attitudes make them so miserable that they have seriously considered changing jobs. Even worse, 93% admitted their productivity level dropped when forced to work alongside coworkers with poor attitudes

HE ROUTLEDGE HANDBOOK OF ACCOUNTING ETHICS - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Eileen Z. Taylor and Paul F. Williams خلاصه: 1 INTRODUCTION Eileen Z. Taylor and Paul F. Williams “Ethics” and “morals” are two terms about which there is ambiguity. Some scholars consider the terms to be synonymous. Others make a distinction that ethics pertains to right conduct vis-à-vis others, while morals pertains to one’s personal sense of right conduct; still others reverse that distinction. Philosophers tend to regard the distinction between “ethics” and “morals” to be that ethics pertains to a centuries-old conversation about how we decide what is good and bad, right and wrong, while morals is the content of good and bad, right and wrong. The perspective on “ethics” taken in this book is this latter sense; thus the title Companion to Accounting Ethics. The book’s purpose is not to be a handbook of accounting rights and wrongs but rather a collec- tion of conversations employed by educators to assist students of accounting to become more attuned to accounting’s ethical aspects and to become more critical thinkers about the ethical complexities of the function of accounting in human society. As a social science, accounting is the creation of people, for the purpose of accounting for transactions (generally monetary) between and among groups of people. Accounting does not exist without people, and its rules of the day are determined by people; it is mutable and wholly dependent on both the decisions made by people with economic power and acceptance of those decisions by those same people. Similarly, ethics are enacted by people, and the ethicality of an action is determined by the individual affected by the action, as well as by the collective societal acceptance or rejection of an action. Accounting, because it is people driven, inherently has an ethical component. Every deci- sion about how to account for a transaction at some point affects an individual, either directly or indirectly. For example, decisions about recording revenue affect those whose income is commission-based. Decisions about recording an expense affects taxes paid (and received by the government for the benefit of society). Our primary goal with this book is to call attention to the intersectionality of accounting and ethics and to encourage students and researchers to consider the ethical implications of accounting decisions

نویسندگان: DAEGAN MILLER خلاصه: Then the coal company came with the world’s largest shovel, And they tortured the timber, and stripped all the land. Well, they dug for their coal till the land was forsaken, And they wrote it all down as the progress of man. John Prine, “Paradise”1 What happens when the past’s oldest witness comes crashing down dead? A new day will dawn . . . but over what? Where are we, who are we, when the bough breaks? Bostonians opened their eyes on a Wednesday morning in 1876 to opaque February skies bleakly blanketing a city made suddenly strange. At 7 p.m. the evening before, the enormous Great Elm on the famous Boston Common had been toppled by a hard wind.2 Of course, trees fall all the time with never a thought spared them, but the Great Elm was dif- ferent. It was famous in the nineteenth-century as an emissary from the past, and it appears ubiquitously in prose, poem, and print, a people’s treasured heirloom, believed to be among the last living witnesses to the young nation’s milestones; its loss was disorienting. Paul Revere, on his 1775 midnight ride, was rumored to have passed by the tree

نویسندگان: S. E. Gontarski خلاصه: Tennessee Williams, T-shirt Modernism and the Refashionings of Theater reappraises the received wisdom that Williams’s work fell into decline in the late 1960 as the Naturalism he was associated with, not always through his own choice, was replaced by European theatrical experimentalism and as culture saw a lifting of sexual restrictions. It suggests, instead, that Williams was always experimental, always more Chekhov than Ibsen, a lyrical playwright inflected with the poetry of Harte Crane, and that his late plays are as central to Williams’s reshaping of American theater as those works of the immediate post–World War II era that brought him fame and fortune. Its general aim, then, is to engage the perception that “Tennessee Williams is the greatest unknown playwright America has produced” (David Savran, City University of New York). In many respects the work of Tennessee Williams, after a protracted period of neglect, is primed for reappraisal , reinterpretations and, subsequently, re-stagings. This work is part of that process, academically at very least, but performatively as well as academic reinterest often regenerates theatrical reinterest. Read less

The Lost World of Genesis One: Ancient Cosmology and the Origins Debate (The Lost World Series, Volume 2) - Original PDF
نویسندگان: John H. Walton خلاصه: In this astute mix of cultural critique and biblical studies, John H. Walton presents and defends twenty propositions supporting a literary and theological understanding of Genesis 1 within the context of the ancient Near Eastern world and unpacks its implications for our modern scientific understanding of origins. Ideal for students, professors, pastors and lay readers with an interest in the intelligent design controversy and creation-evolution debates, Walton's thoughtful analysis unpacks seldom appreciated aspects of the biblical text and sets Bible-believing scientists free to investigate the question of origins. The books in the Lost World Series follow the pattern set by Bible scholar John H. Walton, bringing a fresh, close reading of the Hebrew text and knowledge of ancient Near Eastern literature to an accessible discussion of the biblical topic at hand using a series of logic-based propositions.

The Coronavirus Pandemic and Inequality - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Shirley Johnson-Lans خلاصه: his book has been a long time in the making. It was first conceived in the summer of 2020 at which time few people expected a pandemic of the length we have experienced, dealing with a virus that is so efficient in morphing into ever more transmissible variants. Much of the world, including Europe, the United States, and Australia, now seems to have reached a point where COVID-19 is beginning to be regarded as endemic with occasional upticks, much like the annual influenza epidemics with which we have all learned to live. However, since we are not really out of the woods yet with respect to the COVID-19 pandemic, especially as vaccination rates in many parts of the world are well below where they need to be, this book can only be a provisional assessment of the effects and response to the coronavirus pandemic. It is an attempt to summarize and take stock of where many countries in the world stand as of October 2022

Trevor Winchester Swan, Volume II - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Peter L. Swan خلاصه: We now come to the first set of papers which made Trevor Swan famous. When Trevor Swan moved to the chair at the ANU he continued to dwell over the problems of internal and external balance which had been concerning him as an advisor to Prime Minister Menzies and even earlier when he was developing his econometric model of the Australian economy. In particular he was concerned that the very rapid immigra- tion programme, and the investment required to equip the newly arriving migrants would lead to excess demand in the economy and so create difficulties for policymakers in their attempts to achieve full employment, low inflation and a satisfactory outcome on the balance of payments (see Swan, 1949, 1950a, 1950c, 1950d). As early as November 1952, Swan wrote a paper, Simple Algebra (1952) which is included in this volume, for a meeting of economists at the Commonwealth (Central) Bank in Sydney addressing the issue of simultaneously achieving three objectives:
