Teen Driving (Issues That Concern You) - PDF
Teen Driving (Issues That Concern You) - PDF
نویسندگان: Linda Aksomitis خلاصه: In the case of Robertson v. the Department of Public Works, JusticeTolman of the Washington State Supreme Court stated that:Complete freedom of the highways is so old and well establisheda blessing that we have forgotten the days of the Robber Baronsand toll roads, and yet, under an act like this [regarding a lackof jurisdiction in a case on driving without a license], arbitrarilyadministered, the highways may be completely monopolized;if, through lack of interest, the people submit, then they maylook to see the most sacred of their liberties taken from themone by one, by more or less rapid encroachment. The question remains, though: Is driving a right or a privi-lege? Nina A. of Byron Center, Michigan, published an articleon teenink.com describing the day she decided it was indeed aprivilege. While driving her little blue Geo Tracker early onemorning, struggling to stay awake, she ran a red light and causedan accident. She wrote, “Nothing is more important than hav-ing enough sleep to drive safely and keep myself and others safe(and possibly even alive). These are all reminders of just how biga privilege driving really is.”If driving were considered a right, instead of a privilege, shouldanyone be able to just hop into a vehicle—car, truck, tractortrailer—and hit the interstate? What of learning the traffic lawsfirst and passing a driver’s license test? Should people have tostudy driving laws in advance, or will they automatically figureout how it all works when they jump behind the wheel of a 4,000-pound car or an 80,000-pound 18-wheeler? What happens if theydo not figure it out quickly enough? Somebody dies.

Information Structure and Language Change: New Approaches to Word Order Variation in Germanic (Trends in Linguistics. Studies and Monographs) - PDF
نویسندگان: Roland Hinterhölzl, Roland Hinterholzl خلاصه: The book addresses one of the most prominent and widely discussed topics in diachronic syntax, namely, word order variation and change in older Germanic. It presents a novel approach that explains these issues not in terms of parameters and parameter change or in terms of competition between two grammars, but in terms of competition between information-structurally marked and unmarked forms within one grammar.

نویسندگان: Julia Quinn خلاصه: ―Annabel!‖Annabel snapped to attention. Louisa was addressing her with uncommon urgency, and she‘d dowell to listen.―Annabel, this is important,‖ Louisa said.Annabel nodded, and an unfamiliar feeling washed over her—maybe of gratitude, certainly oflove. She‘d only just got to know her cousin, but already there was a deep bond of affection, andshe knew that Louisa would do everything in her power to keep Annabel from making anunhappy alliance.Unfortunately, Louisa‘s power was, in this capacity, limited. And she did not—no, she couldnot—understand the pressures of being the eldest daughter of an impoverished family.―Listen to me,‖ Louisa implored. ―Lord Newbury‘s son died, oh, I think it must be a bit over ayear ago. And he started looking for a wife before his son was cold in his grave.‖―Shouldn‘t he have found one by now, then?‖Louisa shook her head. ―He almost married Mariel Willingham.‖―Who?‖ Annabel blinked, trying to place the name.―Exactly. You‘ve never heard of her. She died.‖Annabel felt her eyebrows rise. It was really a rather emotionless delivery of such tragic news.―Two days before the wedding she took a chill.‖―She died in only two days?‖ Annabel asked. It was a morbid question, but, well, she had toknow.―No. Lord Newbury insisted upon delaying the ceremony. He said it was for her welfare, thatshe was too ill to stand up in church, but everyone knew that he really just wanted to make sureshe was healthy enough to bear him a son.‖―And then?‖―Well, and then she did die. She lingered for about a fortnight. It was really very sad. She wasalways very kind to me.‖ Louisa gave her head a little shake, then continued. ―It was a near missfor Lord Newbury. If he‘d married her, he would have had to go into mourning. As it was, hehad already tried to wed scandalously soon after his son‘s death. If Miss Willingham hadn‘t diedbefore the wedding, he‘d have had another year of black.‖―How long did he wait before looking for someone else?‖ Annabel asked, dreading the answer.―Not more than two weeks. Honestly, I don‘t think he would have waited that long if he thoughthe could have got away with it.‖ Louisa looked about, her eyes falling on Annabel‘s sherry. ―Ineed some tea,‖ she said.

نویسندگان: Robert Hooijberg, Robert Hooijberg, James G. (Jerry) Hunt, John Antonakis, Kimberly Boal, Nancy Lane خلاصه: Whereas most of the leadership literature has focused on direct, interpersonal leadership, few researchers have examined indirect leadership or the leadership of organizations. Of course, direct, personal leadership plays an important role at all levels of the organization. However, we focus here on how leaders use strategy, structures, and systems to create the conditions that stimulate others to meaningfully contribute to the overarching goals of the organization. We therefore explore the role of the strategic leader as an architect. In this role as strategic architect, we examine how top-level leaders create organizations wherein leadership is developed, knowledge is created and disseminated, meaning is shaped and shared, and where the vision cascades to all corners of the organization. We also explore the darker side of leader discretion to show the deleterious consequences of leader power. Finally, we examine the complex nature of organizations and the roles of leaders in adapting the organization to the environment in which it operates. The six major sections in this book coincide with these aspects of the leaders architectural focus. The first chapter in each section provides a short theoretical introduction. Following the theory chapters are application chapters, highlighting the practical implications of the theory with real-life examples. The sixth section explores the relationship between complexity theory and strategic leadership. It examines indirect leadership - the leadership OF organizations. It explores how leaders exercise leadership indirectly through structures, processes and systems that stimulate others to contribute to organizational goals. It contains six major sections: leadership development, knowledge management, influencing and shaping meaning, leader discretion, vision cascading, and complexity theory and the networked organization.

Everyone's Crazy Except You and Me...And I'm Not So Sure About You: America's Favorite Contrarian Cuts Loose - PDF
نویسندگان: Lionel خلاصه: Everyone's Crazy Here... In his twenty years on the radio, the mononymous Lionel (''one name, like God,'' as he is fond of saying) has forged his reputation as an irreverent, ribald, take-no-prisoners analyst of culture, politics, and the world at large. Now America's favorite contrarian takes to the page with this hilarious user's guide to our country and culture. In Everyone's Crazy Except You and Me ... And I'm Not So Sure About You , Lionel offers a collection of hilarious and insightful observations on life, liberty, and the pursuit of alien life forms. From the sublime (Why do so many of us believe in God?) to the ridiculous (Why did he run over his sister's hair with the vacuum cleaner?), Lionel takes his readers on a riotous ride through his world, and ours. A former prosecutor, Lionel examines our greatest national oxymoron--criminal justice. He hates hate crimes, and argues against drug criminalization and the Son of Sam laws. He's also an indefatigable defender of the First Amendment who nevertheless believes that men shouldn't drink mojitos or wear socks with sandals. And lest you think he just picks on the Right, rest assured that Lionel has plenty to say about Lefties, Centrists, and even barristas. No subject is off limits here. No group is immune--not conservatives, not women, and especially not American Homo sapiens. Consider these imponderables: Why today's acrobatic professional wrestler is inferior to the beer-bellied hulk of the sixties Why Hazmat suits are worn more than once, but not wedding gowns Why women can't tell jokes Why you should never drink anything you can't spell. An infectious, irresistible, and possibly persuasive book that is bound to entertain and inform, Everyone's Crazy Except You and Me ... And I'm Not So Sure About You is the perfect read for anyone who questions the state of our national mental health. Void where prohibited by law.
