The Essential Financial Toolkit: Everything You Always Wanted To Know About Finance But Were Afraid To Ask - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Javier Estrada خلاصه: viPrefaceI have been lecturing executives in executive-educationprograms for many years now. The audiences are almostalways heterogeneous both in terms of age and nation-ality, and, more importantly, in terms of backgroundand training. Over time, I think I have learned to talk tothe “average” participant in a program, without boringthose that know some finance and without leaving farbehind those that have little or no idea about it.Part of the reason I have achieved this has to do withhaving provided participants with some backgroundreadings before the beginning of a program. The goalof the readings is to bring those without trainingin finance up to speed, which is valuable on at leasttwo counts. First, those that do have some training infinance do not get bored with discussions of basic tools;and, second, it liberates precious time to focus on issuesmore central to the program. The ten chapters of thisbook were born as independent notes written for thesevery reasons. As happens to many authors, after failing to find some-thing that would fit what I needed, I decided to writeit myself. And the characteristics I had in mind for thenotes I was about to write were the following

Careers for gourmets & others who relish food - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Mary Deirdre Donovan خلاصه: re there opportunities in the food industry? I say thereare. Just fifty years ago, it was not considered a goodidea for a young person to contemplate a career in cook-ing. Agriculture, yes, but not in the preparation of food or in thefew elements that made up the food industry at that time. As anation, our interest in good food has increased dramatically, andit will continue to increase. We are no longer a nation of meat, potatoes, and apple pie eaters. We want good vegetables andfruit, good cheese, and good prepared products. How has all of this evolved? First of all, it was the passionshared by a few food enthusiasts such as Julia Child, James Beard,Craig Claiborne, Elizabeth David, and Alice Waters. All of themwere exposed to the foods of France and Italy and decided thatAmerica needed change in its eating habits. And change it hashad! Many young people today share that passion and are find-ing satisfying and rewarding careers—not just cooking, but in allparts of the food industry: writing, teaching, catering, small spe-cialized agriculture, as well as baking and candy or jam making.Five years ago would you have thought that Italian-type bis-cotti, made by small bakers, would be available in every special-ized food shop in America? Or that small farmer’s markets wouldagain be the way to get fresher fruit and vegetables? There aremany changes taking place in what we eat, where we eat, andwho provides our food. It all depends on people with a passionfor food and the will to share it with others.Chuck WilliamsFounder, Vice-Chairman of the BoardWilliams-Sonoma, Inc.

Passing psychometric tests: know what to expect and get the job you want - PDF
Passing psychometric tests: know what to expect and get the job you want - PDF
نویسندگان: Andrea Shavick خلاصه: There are three things you have to do if you want to pass a psychometric test.No 1. perhaps the most important thing of all, is don’t panic. By the very act ofbuying this book you’ve already upped your chances of passing by a very long way.Familiarisation is the name of the game, and if you know what to expect, you can reducethe fear factor considerably.No. 2. is slightly obvious (although not to everyone) and that is to practise. It’s amazing how far you can improve your test scores with a bit of practice, especially ifyou haven’t taken many psychometric tests before. No 3. is to cheat. Well, not literally. I’m not advocating taking binoculars into thetest and stealing the other candidates answers (although it’s rather an enticing idea). Butwhat if you could find out in advance what you’ll be up against? What if you could find outexactly what type of test you’ll be taking and what the pass mark is? Surely that would giveyou the edge over all the other applicants? Not cheating at all really. Actually it’s extremely sensible, not to mention easy, andI’m going to show you how to do it.In this book I explain all there is to know about psychometric tests; what they are, what they measure, who uses them, why they’re used, how they’re changing, how tosurvive them, and even how to avoid them altogether! And because the whole point of this book is to familiarise you with the differenttypes of test and give you the chance to practice (thereby helping you improve yourperformance) I include 35 practice tests! These are not ‘made up’ tests that you sometimes see in books about psychometrics, nor are they puzzles or quizzes of the magazine variety. They are genuine practice tests fromthe biggest test publisher in the world; SHL Group plc. This is the genuine article. This is thesort of thing you’ll be facing when you apply for a job with virtually any medium–large sizecompany, irrespective of industry, whether private or public sector

Dream When You're Feeling Blue - PDF
نویسندگان: Elizabeth Berg خلاصه: T WAS KITTY’S TURN TO SLEEP with her head at the foot of the bed. She didn’t mind; she preferred it, actually. She liked the mild disorientation that came from that position, and she liked the relative sense of privacy—her sisters’ feet in her face, yes, but not their eyes, not their ears, nor the close, damp sounds of their breathing. And at the foot of the bed she was safe from Louise, who often yanked mercilessly at people’s hair in her sleep. Tonight Kitty was last to bed, having been last in the bathroom. Everybody liked it when Kitty was last in the bathroom because, of the eight people living in the house, she always took the longest. Apart from the normal ablutions, she did things in there: affected poses she thought made her look even more like Rita Hayworth—she did look like Rita Hayworth, everyone said so. She filed her fingernails, she experimented with combining perfumes to make a new scent, she creamed her face, she used eyebrow pencil to make beauty marks above her lip. She also read magazines in the bathroom because there, no one read over her shoulder. Oh, somebody would bang on the door every time she was in there, somebody was always banging on the bathroom door, but a girl could get a lot done in a room with a locked door. Kitty could do more in five minutes in the bathroom than in thirty minutes anywhere else in the house, where everyone in the family felt it their right—their obligation!—to butt into everyone else’s business. When Kitty came out of the bathroom, she tiptoed into the bedroom, where it appeared her sisters were already asleep—Tish on her side with her knees drawn up tight, Louise with the covers flung off. Kitty crouched down by Louise and whispered her sister’s name. Kitty wanted to talk; she wasn’t ready to sleep yet. But Louise didn’t budge.

The Power of Non-Verbal Communication: What You Do Is More Important Than What You Say - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Henry H. Calero خلاصه: Whenever we perceive information that is not written or spoken, wecomprehend something that is nonverbal. Humans have the capability ofreceiving information besides what is written or spoken. Our senses oftouch, taste, seeing, hearing, smells, signs, symbols, colors, facial expres-sions, gestures, posture, and intuition are the primary sources of the non-verbal messages we receive. It is a silent language not formally taught, andwhich has existed before language was invented. The only humans who do not have the capacity for perceiving non-verbal communication are those who are autistic. One of the foremost experts of autism is Simon Baron-Cohen whoteaches at Trinity College in England. She says:It’s a developmental disability that begins in childhood withthe inability to put yourself in someone else’s shoes and seethe world from someone’s else’s perspective; but also the in-ability to figure out what they might be thinking. So thesechildren literally cannot interpret what a frown or raised eye-brow might mean.

How Wikipedia Works: And How You Can Be a Part of It - PDF
نویسندگان: Phoebe Ayers, Charles Matthews, Ben Yates خلاصه: This book is divided into four parts, starting with the basics and working through all aspects of Wikipedia.Part I looks at Wikipedia from the reader's point of view. Chapter 1, What's in Wikipedia? describes the type of contentWikipedia contains and the basic policies that determine what content is included. The site's history is explored in Chapter 2,The World Gets a Free Encyclopedia; in particular, we look at the way that Wikipedia unites three historical strands:encyclopedias, wikis, and free software. How to search and browse the site (including an explanation of the sidebar andmain page) is detailed in Chapter 3, Finding Wikipedia's Content, and Chapter 4, Understanding and Evaluating an Articlecovers the structure of an individual article and methods for evaluating article quality.Part II turns to editing the site. A basic explanation of how to edit a page and an introduction to wikisyntax are in Chapter 5,Basic Editing; this chapter forms the foundation for the next chapters in this part. Chapter 6, Good Writing and Researchcovers how to start a new article and explores encyclopedic writing, research, and collaboration techniques that are usefulfor working on any article. Formal processes for maintaining content, including collaborative editing drives and cleanupprojects, WikiProjects, and article deletion and promotion processes are covered in Chapter 7, Cleanup, Projects, andProcesses. Chapter 8, Make and Mend Wikipedia's Web explains how articles are linked together through Wikipedia'scategory structure, disambiguation pages, and redirects, along with how pages are maintained through merging, splitting, and moving. More advanced syntax, including image formatting, tables, templates, and special characters, is covered inChapter 9, Images, Templates, and Special Characters.
