نویسندگان: Elizabeth Berg خلاصه: T WAS KITTY’S TURN TO SLEEP with her head at the foot of the bed. She didn’t mind; she preferred it, actually. She liked the mild disorientation that came from that position, and she liked the relative sense of privacy—her sisters’ feet in her face, yes, but not their eyes, not their ears, nor the close, damp sounds of their breathing. And at the foot of the bed she was safe from Louise, who often yanked mercilessly at people’s hair in her sleep. Tonight Kitty was last to bed, having been last in the bathroom. Everybody liked it when Kitty was last in the bathroom because, of the eight people living in the house, she always took the longest. Apart from the normal ablutions, she did things in there: affected poses she thought made her look even more like Rita Hayworth—she did look like Rita Hayworth, everyone said so. She filed her fingernails, she experimented with combining perfumes to make a new scent, she creamed her face, she used eyebrow pencil to make beauty marks above her lip. She also read magazines in the bathroom because there, no one read over her shoulder. Oh, somebody would bang on the door every time she was in there, somebody was always banging on the bathroom door, but a girl could get a lot done in a room with a locked door. Kitty could do more in five minutes in the bathroom than in thirty minutes anywhere else in the house, where everyone in the family felt it their right—their obligation!—to butt into everyone else’s business. When Kitty came out of the bathroom, she tiptoed into the bedroom, where it appeared her sisters were already asleep—Tish on her side with her knees drawn up tight, Louise with the covers flung off. Kitty crouched down by Louise and whispered her sister’s name. Kitty wanted to talk; she wasn’t ready to sleep yet. But Louise didn’t budge.

نویسندگان: Rida Allen خلاصه: After five years, you would think you know a person... Matt Collins has worked with uber-programmer Phil Fink for the past five years and although they've never met in person, he's sure he has the guy pegged. Fink is an anti-social workaholic and a class-A nerd who avoids personal interaction like the plague. Matt and his colleagues love to make jokes about Fink both because of his name and the life they assume he leads. But in business, there's no other programmer that Matt would rather work with. In fact, Matt's sure his next idea is bound to be the big one and Fink is definitely the man to do the job. And of course it's just a bonus if Matt comes back the office hero with intimate knowledge of the infamous Phil Fink. Calling Phil Fink a programming guru is probably an understatement; calling Phil Fink a man is just downright wrong... Five years of being known as nerdy old Phil Fink hasn't bothered her one bit because business is business and who cares what her gender is. But when Phyllis Fink's biggest client requires her to work face-to-face with one of their internal programmers, she freaks out and threatens to leave the country. Communicating via emails and instant messages has always worked in the past, why change what's not broken? Will Matt's intrusion into her ultra-secured home office shake up her personal life as well as her business reputation? And will Matt keep her secret or return to the office with the scoop of the century and intimate knowledge of the infamous Phil Fink?

نویسندگان: Henry H. Calero خلاصه: Whenever we perceive information that is not written or spoken, wecomprehend something that is nonverbal. Humans have the capability ofreceiving information besides what is written or spoken. Our senses oftouch, taste, seeing, hearing, smells, signs, symbols, colors, facial expres-sions, gestures, posture, and intuition are the primary sources of the non-verbal messages we receive. It is a silent language not formally taught, andwhich has existed before language was invented. The only humans who do not have the capacity for perceiving non-verbal communication are those who are autistic. One of the foremost experts of autism is Simon Baron-Cohen whoteaches at Trinity College in England. She says:It’s a developmental disability that begins in childhood withthe inability to put yourself in someone else’s shoes and seethe world from someone’s else’s perspective; but also the in-ability to figure out what they might be thinking. So thesechildren literally cannot interpret what a frown or raised eye-brow might mean.

نویسندگان: Sabrina Jeffries خلاصه: Charlotte Harris, headmistress and owner of Mrs. Harris’s School for Young Ladies, sat at her desk and reread—twice—the pleading letter she had composed to CousinMichael, her anonymous benefactor. Then she tore it up. What was the point of writing him, when every letter she sent tohis solicitor was returned unopened? She wiped her clammy hands on her skirt. He had to know what desperate straits theschool was in—he knew everything. And until six months ago, he had always toldher everything he knew. But after she had pressed him so hard about his identity, hehad ended their correspondence. There had not been a word from him since. The hollow fear that gripped her so often these days made her stomach clench. Allright, so perhaps he had good reason to be angry at her. She had agreed not to presshim about his anonymity.Still, how could he abandon them after all this time? He had been part of the school‟sinception fourteen years ago. Indeed, without him there would be no school. Shewould probably still be languishing as a teacher at the school in Chelsea, dreamingof the day when she could open her own institution governed by her own curriculumand her own rules. Now their idiot neighbor, Mr. Pritchard, was about to sweep it all away. He wasrumored to be on the verge of selling Rockhurst, the estate adjoining the school‟sproperty, to the owner of a racecourse in Yorkshire. She could just see it—roughmen flocking to bet on the races, spilling onto the school‟s lawn and accosting hergirls. How could Cousin Michael stand by and let it happen? He owned this property. Didhe not care if she was forced out?
