Electricity And Magnetism: Stop Faking It! Finally Understanding Science So You Can Teach It - PDF
نویسندگان: William C. Robertson خلاصه: Shocked by static? Mixed up about magnets? Curious about currents? This book will help you get beyond memorizing electricity-related formulas, rules, and procedures so you can understand the topic at a deep level deep enough to teach it with confidence and comfort. By covering the basics of static electricity, current electricity, and magnetism, the book develops a scientific model showing that electricity and magnetism are really the same phenomenon in different forms. A bonus feature: access to interactive software that you can download from the NSTA Web site. The software will help you investigate electrical circuits from simple to complex without having to buy a lot of expensive materials (or risking electrocution!). Electricity and Magnetism is the fifth title in the award-winning NSTA Press Stop Faking It! Series. As author Bill Robertson writes, The book you have in your hands is not a textbook. It is, however, designed to help you get science at a level you never thought possible, and also to bring you to the point where tackling more traditional science resources won t be a terrifying, lump-in-your-throat, I-don t-think-I ll-survive experience. Robertson serves as your friendly guide, one with a comforting knack for anticipating fears, meeting information needs, and entertaining as he edifies.

Vegan on the Cheap: Great Recipes and Simple Strategies that Save You Time and Money - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Robin Robertson خلاصه: I cant say enough about this book. Its got it all. I thought I was a pretty savvy mama when it came to stretching the dollar to feed my family but all that was thrown out the door when I switched to a vegan lifestyle. I thought no meal was complete without *expesive* faux meat. The meat alternatives alone were draining the food budget :( . All the information at the beginning of the book is soooooo useful. The Wheatballs are "amazing" (my meat loving husband says) and there are several recipies they are used in - in this book, super fast and easy to make. My littles (ages 5 and 3) also love making them. I recomend this book for anyone thinking of a vegan diet and for anyone who is just interested on how to save money in the kitchen.

HE ROUTLEDGE HANDBOOK OF ACCOUNTING ETHICS - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Eileen Z. Taylor and Paul F. Williams خلاصه: 1 INTRODUCTION Eileen Z. Taylor and Paul F. Williams “Ethics” and “morals” are two terms about which there is ambiguity. Some scholars consider the terms to be synonymous. Others make a distinction that ethics pertains to right conduct vis-à-vis others, while morals pertains to one’s personal sense of right conduct; still others reverse that distinction. Philosophers tend to regard the distinction between “ethics” and “morals” to be that ethics pertains to a centuries-old conversation about how we decide what is good and bad, right and wrong, while morals is the content of good and bad, right and wrong. The perspective on “ethics” taken in this book is this latter sense; thus the title Companion to Accounting Ethics. The book’s purpose is not to be a handbook of accounting rights and wrongs but rather a collec- tion of conversations employed by educators to assist students of accounting to become more attuned to accounting’s ethical aspects and to become more critical thinkers about the ethical complexities of the function of accounting in human society. As a social science, accounting is the creation of people, for the purpose of accounting for transactions (generally monetary) between and among groups of people. Accounting does not exist without people, and its rules of the day are determined by people; it is mutable and wholly dependent on both the decisions made by people with economic power and acceptance of those decisions by those same people. Similarly, ethics are enacted by people, and the ethicality of an action is determined by the individual affected by the action, as well as by the collective societal acceptance or rejection of an action. Accounting, because it is people driven, inherently has an ethical component. Every deci- sion about how to account for a transaction at some point affects an individual, either directly or indirectly. For example, decisions about recording revenue affect those whose income is commission-based. Decisions about recording an expense affects taxes paid (and received by the government for the benefit of society). Our primary goal with this book is to call attention to the intersectionality of accounting and ethics and to encourage students and researchers to consider the ethical implications of accounting decisions

The Relational Governance of Artificial Intelligence Forms and Interactions - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Sabine Wiesmüller خلاصه: he book “The Relational Governance of Artificial Intelligence—Forms and Inter- actions” by Sabine Wiesmüller deals both with the theoretical prerequisites and prac- tical possibilities of the governance of “Artificial Intelligence” (AI) in the interplay of social, entrepreneurial, and ethical decision-making logics. In particular, Sabine Wiesmüller’s book aims to contribute to the discussion of a theme that all societies are confronted with today and for which solutions are being sought, namely the complex interactions and network effects of the technological, economic and social aspects of AI. The book focuses on a genuinely interdisciplinary analysis: The overlap and rela- tionalisation between economic, system-theoretical, and ethical language games. Only through such a relationalisation—and this is one of the basic assumptions of the author—can the challenges of the rapidly developing technical and economic possi- bilities, risks, and challenges of artificial intelligence in the economy and society be understood and productively dealt with. The aim of the analysis is therefore twofold: On the one hand, it provides a theo- retical literature reconstruction of the polyvalent forms of governance of AI. On the other hand, it also addresses the practical possibilities for an intersectoral imple- mentation of relational governance of AI. The latter means that the governance of AI must enable and promote the cooperation of the multiple stakeholders involved, especially their interests, resources and decision-making logics. It is therefore about the relational governance of economic and social transactions that relationalise tech- nical logic, economic value creation and ethical demands such as self-interest, trust, integrity and stakeholder legitimacy. In this way, the adaptive approach to uncertainty and process dynamics becomes possibl
Environmental Regulations and Industrial Competitiveness Case Studies of Toxic Industries in Southern California - Original PDF
Environmental Regulations and Industrial Competitiveness Case Studies of Toxic Industries in Southern California - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Ward Thomas • Paul Ong خلاصه: 1 Chapter 1 Environmental Regulations and Industrial Competitiveness Abstract Industries in the U.S. emit billions of pounds of toxic chemicals into the environment every year, resulting in a major risk to human health. Many economists and policy makers, however, are strongly opposed to environmental regulations based on an assumption that regulations lead to a loss of jobs and a declining stan- dard of living for U.S. citizens. The empirical literature on this question has pro- duced mixed results, and this chapter critically assesses several conceptual and methodological issues that are embedded in this literature. Our thesis is that strin- gent environmental regulations have the potential to effectively and efficiently reduce toxic emissions from polluting firms and industries while having a negligible impact on the economic competitiveness of firms and industries. We investigate this thesis through three empirical case studies of polluting industries in Southern California that are highly regulated by the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD): metal finishing, wood furniture, and dry cleaning. We also attempt to reveal the institutional process by which firms comply with environmen- tal regulations. Keywords Environmental regulations · Economic competitiveness · Environmental pollution · Economic externalities · Market failure · Environmental compliance · Technological uncertainty · Innovation · Adoption Introduction Over the last half century, the US federal government has played an active role in regulating the emission of toxic chemicals from polluting firms and industries (Rosenbaum, 2019; Telsey, 2016). Congress passed the Clean Air Act of 1970 “to protect and enhance the quality of the nation’s air resources so as to promote the public health and welfare and the productive capacity of the population” (US Environmental Protection Agency, 2007, p. 2). Congress also created the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) in 1970 to implement and enforce the nation’s environmental law
