The Personal Credibility Factor: How to Get It, Keep It, and Get It Back (If You've Lost It) - PDF
نویسندگان: Sandy Allgeier خلاصه: When I was a boy, my father gave me a few bits of advice to heed if I wanted others to trust and respect me: follow through on your promises. Don't rush to judgment. Match your words to your actions and your actions to your words. Show others the respect you'd like to receive. Treat your word as a sacred bond. Apparently Daddy was a smidge too circumspect, because Sandy Allgeier has spun those concise, durable little sayings into a full-length book that investigates Daddy's advice in truly exhausting detail.

Y-Size Your Business: How Gen Y Employees Can Save You Money and Grow Your Business - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Jason Ryan Dorsey خلاصه: I recently read Y-Size Your Business - How Gen Y Employees Can Save You Money and Grow Your Business by Jason Ryan Dorsey. The Y generation comes after generation X and is often referred to as those being born between 1977 and 1992. That would put them between the ages of 17 and 32. They are also referred to as The Millennial Generation, being shaped heavily by the rapid growth of the Internet, cell phones, Twitter, blogs (I did not know I was shaping a generation)etc. The book has a number of practical ideas and suggestions on how to recruit, train and get the most out of Gen Y. One of the best chapters I liked was Day 1 is all important. The title says it all - basically make the first day a good one. Common sense (which often is not that common). We're now in a culture where we can expect to have four generations working in many businesses, often with different or unique values. I think it's critical for any manager or leader to understand some of these generational biases in order to run their company well. I loved the book, even though I don't like to categorize people and don't consider myself to be within a certain class of people (like boomers). Very early in the book, Jason handles this by saying "A generation is not a rigid box that every single person of a certain age will fit nearly inside. Rather I see generational identity as simply a clue -a big clue-about where to start to more effectively connect with, engage, and lead people of different ages. A clue-not a box." He talks about the Y-Generation having a feeling of entitlement, but places a lot of blame where it should be, on the parents. He says "I know how off-putting Gen Y's attitude can be, but before we condemn my generation as a bunch of spoiled brats (something that I find personally offensive and plan to tell my mom about) we should consider for a moment that entitlement is 100 percent a learned behavior. You are not born entitled. You have to be raised that way.." He talks about how Gen Y looks for fun and excitement in a job and tells the story of Coldstone Creamery, a 1400+ store ice cream franchise (with locations in 12 countries) who have repositioned their job interview as an audition. One thing I love about the Y generation is they're ease of use with technology and how they do Internet research and the use of techno gadgets comes so easily and naturally. The book did have a section that pointed out that the boomer generation was the generation of workaholics (this is one I'm in).

You and Your Money: A No-Stress Guide to Becoming Financially Fit - PDF
نویسندگان: Lois A. Vitt, Karen L. Murrell خلاصه: I heartily endorse this thoughtful set of ideas, as people wade through choices for achieving "financial" fitness by thinking and acting in smart ways, especially in today's environment of financial uncertainty. Dr. Vitt and Karen Murrell provided me with a roadmap, a guide that allowed me to select that which will be most helpful to me, as a consumer, and most importantly as an independent planner for tomorrow! If one is to find ways to save, invest, and diversify in today's markets, I highly recommend this book. My particular favorite section was the one that many people do not focus on! How does one plan for senior years? How does one deal with the reality of aging, while protecting assets and investing wisely after 55? Go straight to You and Your Money, and read on! As an aside, Dr. Vitt's book was the monthly selection for our Bodacious Book Group, and terrific discussion was generated from its contents! Happy Reading! Get financially fit! Miriam Etris

How Math Can Save Your Life: (And Make You Rich, Help You Find The One, and Avert Catastrophes) - PDF
نویسندگان: James D. Stein خلاصه: It's a commonplace observation that the better the mathematician, the worse he or she generally is at balancing a checkbook. It's not a paradox: simple arithmetic is just too boring to hold a bright, abstract thinker's attention. So perhaps this can account for what happened in Chapter 10, "How Math Can Fix the Economy." In the table titled "The S&P Tulip Index, 1975-2007," the author looks at the ratio over a period of years of the year-end closing price of the S&P500 to average household income. Unfortunately, he used REAL (inflation adjusted) household income instead of CURRENT household income. The S&P500 closing prices, of course, are in CURRENT dollars, so the ratio, to make sense, has to be CURRENT dollars to CURRENT dollars. I immediately noticed something was wrong when I saw in the table that average household income supposedly rose only 40 percent from 1975 to 2007. In fact average household income rose 391 percent in CURRENT dollars! (I used the same Census Bureau spreadsheet as the author, but the correct column -- "Current dollars.") With this correction in place, the "S&P Tulip Index" isn't nearly as exuberant at the 1999 stock market peak: a ratio of 4.10 instead of the author's ratio of 16.29. There is also a conceptual problem with the author's "S&P Tulip Index." It doesn't take into account population growth. If the number of households doubled from 1975 to 2007, you might reasonably expect the S&P500 to double as well, even if average household income stayed constant. Sadly, the same mistake of REAL versus CURRENT dollars afflicts the next table too, "The Average Home Price Tulip Index, 1975-2007."
Earn What You're Worth: A Widely Sophisticated Approach to Investing In Your Career-and Yourself - Original PDF
Earn What You're Worth: A Widely Sophisticated Approach to Investing In Your Career-and Yourself - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Nicole Williams, Cheri Hanson خلاصه: This book has very practical advice on how to improve your chance of sucess in the business world, and how to become more financially successful. There is no content on investing or particulars of fiancnes, rather the author approaches the idea of investing in yourself as the msot important way to improve your success, in all aspects of your life. A specific example is "the latte factor." She writes taht she isn't ehre to tell anyone they need to stop drinking alt tes. Instead, she urges each of us to deicde why we are having our lattes, is it beacuse everyone else is getting one? Or do we get out of bed inteh mroing only because of the latte we know awaits us? If it's the latter, then by all means make that investmetn in yourself. If its the former, perhops yo ucan cut that latte out of your habit and have room in your budget for something more important. I read this book twice, and the first time all of her career advice I applied to my relationship (it was all I could focus on at the time). But later, when I re-read it, I applied thea dvice to my career and job hunt and personal finance, and feel that I am actively working towards my goals. It helped me see and create the big picture so I can then work towards acheiving teh various aspects of my life goals.

Easy Money: How to Simplify Your Finances and Get What You Want out of Life - PDF
نویسندگان: Liz Pulliam Weston خلاصه: For most of my readers, this book may prove to be too basic, but we all have friends that are not "money people." They don't know how to take care of their finances, and they constantly get into money troubles. This book could be of help to them. Now, as you can see from the picture, you can see that she refers to herself as, "The Internet's #1 Personal Finance Expert." I can't vouch for that. I like to think that I am aware of a wide number of trends in investing and money management, and this was the first time I heard of her. There were five main things that appealed to me about this book. First, it's not a long book (173 pages in the main body of text), and it is simply written, so an average person not good with finances could make his way through it. Second, even though small, it is pretty comprehensive for the finances of an average person or family. Third, I think she gets most issues right for average people who have relatively simple financial problems. Fourth, it provides advice on where to get more data, without marketing herself directly. Fifth, it summarizes action points for each area of personal finance. I do write about personal finance a little, but you will never get the detailed advice on cash management, budgeting, personal credit, hiring advisors, and shopping smart from me that you will get from this book. My contribution is a more savvy view of investing and insurance. On the latter topic, insurance, I thought she covered the bases well. (As an aside, she shares my bias against variable annuities.) Now, was there anything that I wasn't crazy about? I know she wrote a book on the topic, but I think it would have been worthwhile to briefly explain why keeping a high credit rating in this age is so important, because of the effect that it has on insurance premiums, and even employment, leaving aside how much you will pay in interest, and how onerous lenders and creditors will be with you if you ever make a mistake. Now on investing topics, the book is good but not great. For the average person that doesn't matter. For those wanting to take a step up, I would recommend The Dick Davis Dividend. She focuses on saving enough (most people don't save enough), and asset allocation through passive investments. She is a little too bullish on real estate for my tastes. Someone following her advice in these areas will do better than most, if they have the discipline to avoid panic and greed. But, leaving those quibbles aside, this is a solid book, and those following its advice will benefit.

You're Not Stupid! Get the Truth: A Brief on the Bush Presidency - PDF
نویسندگان: William John Cox خلاصه: This is a good book for reference and summary. Issues are organized with simple narrative of the rhetoric and conflicting actions taken Bush Administration. I didn't read the whole book because every section ends with, "You're not stupid! Get the truth!" making me feel a bit battered after only a few sections. I'll keep the book to refer to issues when I would like background.

Beadweaving Brilliance: Make Beautiful Jewelry as You Learn Off-loom Techniques - PDF
نویسندگان: Kumiko Mizuno Ito خلاصه: To be honest I was expecting more interesting projects in this book than what was shown how to do. Some of them are pretty nice but others are just kind of tacky. Although the techniques you can learn in the book are really nice & you can make some really gorgeous jewelry out of it with the right types of beads. Just because it looks tacky in the book doesn't mean if you use a little bit of creativity doesn't mean YOU can't make it look good. Some of the designs are really interesting & with the right beads you can make some really nice jewelry.
