Planet Earth: 25 Environmental Projects You Can Build Yourself - PDF
Planet Earth: 25 Environmental Projects You Can Build Yourself - PDF
نویسندگان: Kathleen Reilly خلاصه: There were several "early environmentalists," including Henry David Thoreau, John Muir, Theodore Roosevelt and Jacques-Yves Cousteau. They were the early pioneers and not always taken seriously, but now there are many people and organizations that are interested in protecting our environment. Young people today realize that "we're woven into the environment just as much as a leaf on a tree or the soil we walk on" and there are many little things we can do to help. In this book you'll learn about the Earth and our place in it, biome facts, Earth's atmosphere, the stratosphere, the sun, plant and animal species on Earth, pollution, global warming, ozone depletion, endangered species, how to recycle and how the environment balances itself. There are projects interspersed in these pages relative to the dialogue. The author does try to impress upon the reader "to be aware of the materials you use" and encourages environmental awareness throughout the text. Among the many projects you can do include: Make Your Own Whole World Granola Make Your Own Tullgren Funnel Make Your Own Wind-Powered Bubble Machine Make Your Own Plant-Oxygen Experiment Make Your Own Giant Air Blaster Make Your Own Water-Testing Experiment Make Your Own Backyard Pond Make Your Own Miniature Water Cycle Make Your Own Terrarium Make Your Own Solar-Powered Oven Make Your Own Pocket Sundial Make Your Own Sunflower House Make Your Own Pond Exploration Kit Make Your Own Mini Food Chain Make Your Own Butterfly Feeder make Your Own Chemical-Free, Insect-Repelling Dog Collar Make Your Own Ladybug Home Make Your Own Garbage Picker-Upper Make Your Own Global Warming in a Jar Propagate Your Own Tree Make Your Own Ozone Hole Magic Trick Make Your Own Hydroponic Planter Make Your Own Endangered Animal T-Shirt Make Your Own Food Supply Experiment Make Your Own Naturally Dyed Shopping Tote Make Your Own Worm Castle Make Your Own Scratch-and-Sniff Recycled Paper Make Your Own Environment Charm Bracelet Make Your Own "Bring the Earth Back Into Balance" Game I've been looking at this book for over a month and marveling at the amazing information packed inside. This book was printed on "100% recycled paper" by a member of the Green Press Initiative and a listing of the resources saved are listed in the front. The inside has no glossy pages and is actually quite dull looking in black and white. BUT, you'll have to travel far and wide to find a more interesting and unique book that not only discusses critical environmental issues, but also provides many hands-on projects for its readers. In the back of the book is a glossary, an index and additional recommended book, periodical, environmental and web site resources for children. Can't go wrong with this book!
Principles of Tissue Engineering Fifth Edition - Original PDF
Principles of Tissue Engineering Fifth Edition - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Robert Lanza, Robert Langer, Joseph Vacanti, Anthony Atala خلاصه: Now in its fifth edition, Principles of Tissue Engineering has been the definite resource in the field of tissue engineering for more than a decade. The fifth edition provides an update on this rapidly progressing field, combining the prerequisites for a general understanding of tissue growth and development, the tools and theoretical information needed to design tissues and organs, as well as a presentation by the world’s experts of what is currently known about each specific organ system. As in previous editions, this book creates a comprehensive work that strikes a balance among the diversity of subjects that are related to tissue engineering, including biology, chemistry, material science, and engineering, among others, while also emphasizing those research areas that are likely to be of clinical value in the future. This edition includes greatly expanded focus on stem cells, including induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells, stem cell niches, and blood components from stem cells. This research has already produced applications in disease modeling, toxicity testing, drug development, and clinical therapies. This up-to-date coverage of stem cell biology and the application of tissue-engineering techniques for food production – is complemented by a series of new and updated chapters on recent clinical experience in applying tissue engineering, as well as a new section on the emerging technologies in the field.

Assistive Technologies and Environmental Interventions in Healthcare - Original PDF
Assistive Technologies and Environmental Interventions in Healthcare - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Lynn Gitlow, Kathleen Flecky خلاصه: The changes we have all seen in technology and corre spondingly with assistive technology in the past 10 years are mind‐boggling. Futurist and inventor Ray Kurzweil (2000) stated early in the twenty‐first century that com puters are 100 million times more powerful than they were 50 years ago. The exponential growth of computer capacity that Kurzweil and others predicted in the late 1990s continues to advance and has the potential for improving all aspects of life (Diamandis and Kotler 2014). These exponential changes in technology make it hard to keep up with the latest innovations. For example, one of the chapter authors worked in an assistive technology laboratory in which serial port add‐ons to computers evolved into Universal Serial Bus (USB) ports rendering the former connections and their attachments obsolete within in less than five years. Currently, com puters no longer come with disk drives and all of the software one needs to load on the computer comes from the cloud. Vicente (2006) stated, “... more and more technology is being foisted upon us at a faster and faster pace” (p. 13). In addition, technology is clearly a necessary part of our lives. For many of us, it is difficult to remember a time when cell phones, laptops, or navigation devices were not available to those who could afford it. Furthermore, the convergence of multiple technologies into a single, small, handheld device such as a smart phone is common as part of our work and personal experiences

Evolution 2.0: Breaking the Deadlock Between Darwin and Design - Epub + Converted PDF
نویسندگان: Marshall, Perry خلاصه: This product is estimated to be delivered within 2-3 weeks from the dispatch date. In the ongoing debate about evolution, science and faith face off. But the truth is both sides are right and wrong. In one corner: Atheists like Richard Dawkins, Daniel Dennett, and Jerry Coyne. They insist evolution happens by blind random accident. Their devout adherence to Neo-Darwinism omits the latest science, glossing over crucial questions and fascinating details. In the other corner: Intelligent Design advocates like William Dembski, Stephen Meyer, and Michael Behe. Many defy scientific consensus, maintaining that evolution is a fraud and rejecting common ancestry outright. There is a third way. Evolution 2.0 proves that, while evolution is not a hoax, neither is it random nor accidental. Changes are targeted, adaptive, and aware. You’ll discover: How organisms re-engineer their genetic destiny in real time Amazing systems living things use to re-design themselves Every cell is armed with machinery for editing its own DNA The five amazing tools organisms use to alter their genetics 70 years of scientific discoveries-of which the public has heard virtually nothing! Perry Marshall approached evolution with skepticism for religious reasons. As an engineer, he rejected the concept of organisms randomly evolving. But an epiphany-that DNA is code, much like data in our digital age-sparked a 10-year journey of in-depth research into more than 70 years of under-reported evolutionary science. This led to a new understanding of evolution-an evolution 2.0 that not only furthers technology and medicine, but fuels our sense of wonder at life itself. This book will open your eyes and transform your thinking about evolution and God. You’ll gain a deeper appreciation for our place in the universe. You’ll see the world around you as you’ve never seen it before. Evolution 2.0 pinpoints the central mystery of biology, offering a multimillion dollar technology prize at naturalcode.org to the first person who can solve it.
