As a starting point, this chapter will give a brief background to ISA and its goals. This brief discussion sets the scene for the presentation of an illustra- tive description of the process we undertook to develop the counselling supervision instrument that we created in order to develop and test the ISA mobile app. Description of the process of developing the counseling supervision instrument ought to serve as a starting point for the reader who wishes to develop a(n) instrument(s) of their own. In our earlier work (Passmore et al., 2019), we considered the use of ISA for teacher mentor- ship and considered how ISA can help guide the mentoring process. Throughout this earlier work, we argued how the detail ISA can reveal might support the mentoring process by providing the mentor with insights the mentee may not have considered. We also argued that this insight may provide the mentor with information about concerns the men- tee already has such that mentorship might lead to resolution. Finally, we noted that it might be the case that ISA provides insight that the mentee refutes in mentorship sessions. Regardless of the status that the insights hold for the mentee, we argued that they can become a starting and focal point for mentee sessions. When looking at trainee teachers, we focussed on mentoring; in later chapters of this work, we will consider using insights derived from ISA report analysis for the purposes of counselling supervi- sion. That is, Chaps. 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 will focus on how ISA can support the professional development of an individual through counselling supervision. With the nature of ISA, and instrument creation presented, this chapter terminates with a tutorial that covers use of Ipseus, an extant software dedicated to ISA data collection and report creation. Ipseus was designed for use on a PC or laptop. The chapter also provides a tutorial for a new mobile app and links to download it. The app was developed by the authors for ISA data collection with small-screen technologies. It encour- ages the use of smaller instruments than has typically been the case for ISA studies. Relative to large instrument completion on a PC with Ipseus, the app aims to make ISA data collection more engaging, more accessible, and less time consuming
