These stories and voices evolve; they change their volume, frequency, and he- roes in relation to sociopolitical changes. These changes can be viewed from the perspective of the social construction of meaning. The many voices form a variety of narratives of “me” and of the “other” (the enemy), the auditory equivalent of looking through a kaleidoscope. The major factors that shape collective and subjec- tive construction of meaning have political, economic, social, religious, and person- al components, all of which create multiple narratives in relation to each other. We will elaborate on each of these aspects from the perspective of the Israeli narratives, but assume, based on our experience, that Palestinian narratives are not dissimilar. Although these factors are related, we will focus on each one separately to illustrate how each is perceived by representatives of both sides of the continuum.

این داستان ها و صداها تکامل می یابند. آنها حجم، فرکانس و قهرمانان خود را در رابطه با تغییرات سیاسی-اجتماعی تغییر می دهند. این تغییرات را می توان از منظر ساخت اجتماعی معنا نگریست. صداهای بسیار، روایت‌های مختلفی از «من» و «دیگری» (دشمن) را تشکیل می‌دهند، که معادل شنیداری نگاه کردن از طریق کالیدوسکوپ است. عوامل عمده شکل دهنده به ساخت جمعی و ذهنی معنا دارای مولفه های سیاسی، اقتصادی، اجتماعی، مذهبی و شخصی است که همگی روایت های متعددی را در ارتباط با یکدیگر ایجاد می کنند. ما در مورد هر یک از این جنبه ها از منظر روایات اسرائیل توضیح خواهیم داد، اما بر اساس تجربه خود فرض می کنیم که روایت های فلسطینی بی شباهت نیستند. اگرچه این عوامل به هم مرتبط هستند، اما ما بر روی هر یک به طور جداگانه تمرکز خواهیم کرد تا نشان دهیم که هر یک توسط نمایندگان هر دو طرف زنجیره چگونه درک می‌شوند.
