The meeting on radiation effects on polymers was held at the Radiation Laboratory at theUniversity of Notre Dame to review and discuss advances in the radiation processing ofpolymers. The trends in the basic research, R&D and industrial applications were reported.The scope of more applied uses of irradiation involving polymers ranged from discussions of the curing of materials for dental applications, to the effects on polyolefins (the most broadly used class of polymers prevalent in industrial radiation processing) and to emerging interests in hydrogels, carbon fiber composites, heterogeneous mixtures based on material by-products (scrap plastic and wood fragments), grafted materials and materials for electronic uses. In addition, the emerging interests in the use of recently developed high power x ray systems for industrial use were presented.

جلسه در مورد اثرات تشعشع بر پلیمرها در آزمایشگاه تشعشع در دانشگاه نوتردام برگزار شد تا پیشرفت‌ها در پردازش پرتوی پلیمرها بررسی و بحث شود. روند در تحقیقات پایه، تحقیق و توسعه و کاربردهای صنعتی گزارش شد. دامنه کاربردهای بیشتر پرتودهی شامل پلیمرها از بحث در مورد پخت مواد برای کاربردهای دندانپزشکی، تا تأثیرات روی پلی الفین ها (پرکاربردترین کلاس پلیمرهای رایج در پردازش پرتوهای صنعتی) و علایق در حال ظهور در هیدروژل ها، فیبر کربن را شامل می شود. کامپوزیت ها، مخلوط های ناهمگن بر اساس محصولات جانبی مواد (ضایعات پلاستیک و قطعات چوب)، مواد پیوندی و مواد برای مصارف الکترونیکی. علاوه بر این، علایق نوظهور در استفاده از سیستم‌های پرتو ایکس با توان بالا به تازگی توسعه‌یافته برای استفاده صنعتی ارائه شده است.
