The subject of this book is the maritime history of the Maltese Islands, from the first human occupation until the present day. It is the first time that a comprehensive history covering the eight thousand years of Maltese history has been attempted. I was inspired to study the complete record of Maltese maritime history during the time I spent conducting the first systematic underwater archaeology survey of the archipelago: the scarcity of submerged archaeological material, when juxtaposed with the presumed abundance of maritime activity around the islands, was an anomaly that needed to be addressed through an analysis of the survey results and historical record.

موضوع این کتاب تاریخ دریایی جزایر مالت است، از اولین اشغال بشر تا به امروز. این اولین بار است که یک تاریخ جامع که هشت هزار سال تاریخ مالت را پوشش می دهد، انجام می شود. من در طول مدتی که برای انجام اولین بررسی سیستماتیک باستان شناسی زیرآبی مجمع الجزایر گذراندم، الهام گرفتم تا رکورد کامل تاریخ دریایی مالتی را مطالعه کنم: کمبود مواد باستان شناسی غوطه ور، زمانی که با فراوانی احتمالی فعالیت های دریایی در اطراف جزایر کنار هم قرار می گیرد. ناهنجاری که باید از طریق تجزیه و تحلیل نتایج نظرسنجی و سابقه تاریخی مورد توجه قرار گیرد.
